How do you know that an event has pagan Origin? So everything begins with paganism? so paganism is the origin of the world? When you browse the net and discover that in the ancient world certain practices took place on a particular day, you conclude that it is the same practice going on today? What do you really know of the origin of the world? Do you think the world and internet know everything about the world and its origin? That something is instituted in the bible does not mean that it is the first time it has ever happened in the history of human race unless it says so. So when you see something that is not in the bible, it is not enough to conclude it has pagan origin Certain pagan practices may have existed and taken place on December 25th but this practices have an origin in themselves because from the beginning they were not so. When God made the world and in the garden of Eden everything was good and perfect. From the beginning there were no pagan festivals on December the 25th From the beginning there were no pagan festivals on any other day of the year. Matthew 19:8 GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995) Jesus answered them, "Moses allowed you to divorce your wives because you're heartless. It was never this way in the beginning.

When did unbelievers begin to detect to us which day to use and which not to use for our christian festivals? why do you think that God specifically commanded the Isrealites Exodus 20 10 Six days shall thou labour, and do all thy work: But th, e seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work thou, nor thy so, n, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it |

many activities have been going on on the 7th day, personal activities, pagan activities but God said to them it doesn't matter what has been done on that Day before now but from now on keep that day holy unto me. keep that day for me what others do on that day, what other nations do on that day doesn't count but what you do on that day. your action alone is enough to keep that day holy onto the LORD Actually like verse 11 says Even though that the Heathen use the day for other things and even they themselves before that day none of these other activities pre-originates God's own activity from the beginning because God himself rested on that day and hallowed it Why can't the same be with the 25th December? Why do we think that certain pagan practices practiced before on that day violates and nullifies that day from being used to celebrate the birth of our LORD? |

Did God ask them to set the day for partying, excessive drinking, buying of expensive material things, showing off etc. Are you saying that since God told them to set the 7th day holy, he must have told them to celebrate birth of Jesus on 25th Dec? Your logic holds no water. The questions are; did God actually order man to celebrate christmas? Was christmas celebration manmade? Did the apostles celebrate it? |

Yeah yeah we have known about this for years and years. There is no big deal in all these dates. Do we look like that particular religion that limits their religious activities by dates or studies the celestial bodies? Seeing that there was no globally formal calendar in those days, it is no big deal that the date is not certainly known. The event is what really matters. For instance, the Armed Forced Remembrance day is declared in each couuntry to honour dead soldiers who fought bravely for the country and died on various days. ONE date was chosen but the important thing is that the event is celebrated, although throughout the year we all KNOW about the Dead Soldiers but we choose ONE DAY to formally recognize them! So you're basically clutching at straws here. So what if I remember Christ's birth on May the 28th? What then?? Does it guarantee salvation more than it would have on December 25th? |

chinedumo: So what? The fact that man created gods and attributed days to them is all you need to know. It doesn't matter what you believe if the evidence shows otherwise and we know that much of Christianity was formed out of paganism because of physical evidence. The 25th December was originally celebrated as the Winter Solstice and also later became the day of the Roman god Mithras long before Christianity took the day for itself. The Winter Solstice was a huge event in many cultures as it signified that the season had turned a corner and life would soon return in the shape of fruit and crops. It was only natural that it should be celebrated. Christmas wasn't even celebrated for centuries after Jesus' death. In fact, when it began to take hold, the heads of the Church were opposed to the idea of it because of it's pagan origins and the idea that it was "UnChristian". Origen of Alexandria stated that, "only sinners (like Pharaoh and Herod)" celebrated their birthdays. So you see, even the bosses of Christianity disagree with you. |

who are these bosses of Christianity? i never said that 25th December is the only acceptable day to celebrate Christmas i said that 25th December is as valid as other days it cannot be de-validated because of ancient pagan practices Christ never ask us to watch a television but we watch television so Christ does not need to tell us to celebrate Christmas before we do so free123: i never said that that is how the birth of our Lord should be celebrated |

Everyday on the christian calendar celebrates the death of some saint or the other. There are only 2 days on the christian calendar that don't celebrate a death, but rather a birth. These are the birthdays of Jesus Christ (Xmas) and the birthday of St John the Baptist, 25th of June. Both celebrations are remarkably similar. And yes they were popularly celebrated in the pagan eras too. These were the days of the solstice. Christianity had a hard time convincing the pagans of the Roman empire to discard their old ways. It is thought that celebrations like xmas (Christ's mass) and St. John's mass were practiced as a compromise with the pagan elements. However there are hints even in the bible that the basic principles of these days were already contained in the gospels. In John chapt 3 vs. 30 we find The baptizer saying He must Wax, and I must wane. Furthermore it is stated explicitedly in the bible that Jesus is conceived exactly 6 months after St. John the baptizer was conceived. 24And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, 25Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.Luke chapt. 1 The christian scheme fits the pagan scheme too perfectly in so many different ways. Like John baptizing with Water while Jesus baptized with Fire (and the holy spirit). There is so much more. |

@InesQor u can set any date for the celebration, that is not my major concern, my major concern is how it is being celebrated of which u can be a witness |

You can celebrate it your own way. The fact that most people celebrate it committing sin, which is associated with every other celebration beside Xmas does not mean the day itself is bad, it only mean that the attitude of most people regarding celebration in general is perceived as bad. There are people who don't celebrate in that so called bad way, why not use them as a reason to see that its good too. Truth is, every practice on earth can be traced to some pagan practices. Everyday on earth is dedicated to some pagan god or the other if properly researched. Even some practices and Ideas in the Bible can be given some pagan connotations by those who don't hold them like you do. |
