Car Compressor - Manual Or Automatic? by ogzille(m): 8:42pm On Jan 24, 2020
Hello,

My car (Highlander 2009) compressor is bad and I am not sure of the best step to take.

Many technicians are talking about manual (the car came with automatic) but I am not sure this is the best bet for the car generally.

I need advice on what is best and where I can get a good compressor (possibly original Denso) for the vehicle.

Thank you.

Manual if your buying tokunbo if your buying automatic, buy brand new because the sensor can fail at any time if you buy tokunbo auto compressor.

Manual compressor would still work perfectly provided you buy original Denso and get it installed by a professional AC technician to avoid the engine stalling on idle mode and on climbing hills.

My 5cents....

Manual compressor be it new or Tokunbo = it will end in tears.

Replace with the original part. Don't shift left or right away from the factory design

manual or automatic depends on the issue with your car, people don't know the difference within both compressor, all that really matters is every car has there compressor capacity either variable controlled by sensor or magnetic controlled.
Some car are designed to run with e.g 1h.p sensor controlled while some are designed with 1/2 h.p all you need is make sure the automatic or manual compressor are the same capacity, there's a template on every compressor for you to know the capacity.
In additional sensor compressor voltage varies isn't stable like the magnetic coil controlled, get a relay to constant the voltage to 12V DC.
1,if you have a contaminated system, automatic compressor can't work again.except you overhaul the system.
2,if your radiator fan speed isn't working properly am sorry automatic compressor won't work.
Because your fan speed is controlled by your ECU(brainbox),which is very hard for so many car owners to believe.
3,the only reason why you can use automatic compressor is if all I mentioned above is fine, because some times due to age or long time use sensor controlled compressor can fail, you can change only the compressor and every thing will be fine or sensor.

Please where can I get a good auto mechanic for my Lexus ES350 in port Harcourt. I don't mean road side mechanics. A good auto maintenance company that specializes in modern Toyoto and Lexus cars will be very much appreciated. Their location and contact number will be very much appreciated too. And the Ac doesn't chill anymore

Thank you guys.

Based on advice received here, I went for an automatic compressor with AC system flushed and condenser changed.

So far, so good. Hoping for the best.

What are you saying? Why would a brand new compressor fail in 2weeks, except it's the crappy Chinese knock off of a knock off of a knock off that cheapskates buy for their autos? Get a brand new compressor and your AC will chill like factory AC for years...and please don't mention used manual compressor, I beg you

Alright, no problem.

Buy exactly what came with the car. Manufacturers have equipped the car with the right devices, don't alter anything. Engr nurey has advised you rightly, dont let anybody confuse you. It is still working well.

If any technician advises you to switch to manual, then the person may not be very familiar with auto

Fix exactly what you removed down to the part number. Don't allow any Kazeem tell you otherwise.

Doing anything less will end in not only tears, but premium ones!
