Any talk about Peter Osaze Odemwingie using West Bromwich Albion as a stepping stone for deals at bigger clubs in the English Premier League might have been put to naught, following a declaration by The Baggies’ coach, Roberto Di Matteo, that none of his players will leave at the end of this season.

With the Super Eagles’ star taking his goals haul for the season to six, after notching a brace in Sunday’s 3-1 spanking of visiting Newcastle United, winning a man-of-the-match vote in the process, Di Matteo is already looking ahead and believes the fiery form of Osaze in his EPL debut season would not be a catapult into a fat deal among the top clubs next summer.

On the contrary, Osaze’s coach insists the key players are loyal to the squad and is optimistic that he can keep his current squad together. Baggies winger Chris Brunt has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, while the likes of Youssouf Mulumbu and Osaze have also impressed at the Hawthorns and could attract January transfer offers, but their coach will not have any of it.

Di Matteo is confident he will not lose any of his best players when the window opens in the New Year, although he is also not expected to make any signings in January. “All our players are under contract, so I would not expect anyone to leave. Of course, if they do, well they will attract attention but they are happy to be here at the moment,” Osaze’s coach said.

Di Matteo’s comments came hot on the heels of Osaze’s brace on Sunday, and the attacker is giving words of appreciation to The Baggies’ fans for inspiring him all the way to his current string of heroics. Osaze admitted that he was glad to take his season’s goal tally to six against Newcastle United to wrap up the three points, but says every one of his team-mates deserved to be praised as well. “The fans have been superb this season right from the beginning. They are the 12th man in every game.
