Your first paragraph is same thing with what I said, then talking about Andela, i know a computer science graduate from my school that went to Andela, And one other guy from mathematics department. I think you have to go through my write again and stop confusing yourself.
ThreeBlackBird:

You just showed you have no knowledge of programming what so ever. In programming, you can't proceed an inch without understanding the basics of programming theoretically. As a matter of fact, if you don't even have a good knowledge of mathematics, you'll fail from the start.

Only a few universities in Nigeria offer computer science in a reasonable fashion. I was shocked to the marrow the day I was told a department in U.I. still writes codes on paper. Many Nigerian schools don't have facilities to run the programme. They write code on paper which eventually can't be debugged. You'll be surprised to know many computer science students don't even have laptops. They can't even lunch Microsoft visual studio successfully.

Go to Andela, the place where Mark Zuckerberg visited when he came to Nigeria, who are their best programmers and you would realize they don't have a degree in computer science. In fact, when recruiting, the degree is not a requirement.

The lecturers that teach the computer courses nko?
Some with outdated knowledge whose main aims are just to write and publish textbooks to get to the next level or to make money. Some can't even do the simplest of things on their phones, some cant even download an app sef let alone building one.
Lecturers still stuck with 80's knowledge.

I'm glad you understand me. If you have a job offer for a programmer, your best bet is never to search for a computer science graduate but a sound programmer. Programming is a matter of interest and not degree. Those who have the degrees learnt nothing in school. They were thought several language in abstract manner and eventually didn't understand any.

Comp. Science graduates who programme well are those who painstakingly studied such language as if they have no degree.

That some computer science student of UI don't have laptop does not mean some of them don't have, in every field there exist those that are good and those that are not. If you say some computer science graduate can't launch Visual studio, I won't argue, some might be interested in networking and not programming. Computer science is vast

There is no justification for mediocrity. Our undergraduate curriculum is so designed to allow any average student to have an understanding of every aspect of the programme until he specializes to a niche. You should know some basic things.

BTW, I didn't mention computer science department. It was a department in engineering.

PERMISSION TO DRIFT *Shines teeth*

Will you also agree with me that it's also a talent and the best programmers or those good in it developed that from childhood stage.
(If u don't agree, pls feel free to strike through d above comment, pls) lol

Reason why I promised myself that i won't get mad when my kids destroy their one week old toys, when they destroy my flat screen, when they demand for a laptop...i get them one, when they destroy my phone, construct some meaningless things in the house et al. I will let them be.
I know a very good programmer whose eyes were always on screens of phones, had access to an analog disjointed scrap laptop back then.
Interest inclusive...the zeal to know more...

I agree one hundred percent. Truth is if you don't have the zeal for programming for a tender age, you're likely to struggle with it. It's like learning a new language.

Who told you. Do you any idea how difficult it is to program a machine to do even the most basic tasks? Listen see beyond the A.I hype.
Machines have advantage over humans in that they can do many repetitive tasks with blinding accuracy and they have wonderful precision.

But machines can never have the property of intuition. Its what makes humans human. You rreallly believe that a man made machine can sperceed the capacity of a God-made human brain?
I encourage you to read the books Social Intelligence by Daniel Goleman to have an idea of the degree of complexity of the human brain.

Ok. Thanks. Wallahi, Tallahi thumo Billahi, politicians are responsible for most of Nigeria's problems. Imagine a state or National Assembly members will collect within 4yrs what a civil servant can not collect for the period of 30 or 35 yrs in service.

Better get ready because it will happen someday. I know you've heard of Expert systems

Expert systems have been around since the 80s. Still yet to take over

Don't be afraid of what the future holds, you just have to prepare for it. A Chinese man once said, it will be a wise thing to believe there is Heaven than to believe there is no heaven, only to finally find out that one exists. It will be too late by then. AI and Robotics is the future

They are undergoing improvement accompanied by so many research, until they reach the level of taking over from Humans. That time will come, you just have to be prepared.

So many research is currently going on about Neural networks. Machines will do the work of man. That's what the future holds

I laugh at this very statement. Infact your statement doesn't make sense. As a graduate of computer science, it has opened lots of opportunities for me to work in some big firms. One thing you must remember that the way computer science is taught in foreign universities is quite different from the way is been taught in Nigeria universities. I was opportuned to have tested both sides of education. My first degree was B.Tech in computer science and mathematics from a Nigeria school. But when I moved to abroad I went back to study computer science major. Abroad schools will exposed you to different programming languages (Java, C++, Python, php, javascript, Css etc ) and you must be doing ongoing projects using the technologies you learned in class and there are work terms where you are required to work in a company and help the company to solve their business problems using the programming skills acquired in class.
Please i need a laptop 2 practices & Broaden my web design & devlpt training , start a freelance work and do online payment when resume to sch so dat to fend for myself and pay school fee
Thanks in anticipation
Go d bless sir

I mean if you want to make it big in life or you want to become a billionaire within a short period of time, study accountancy and make sure you are very good at it because 99% of accounting graduate in Nigeria today are not employable.
If you want to live a middle class life, study medicine or pharmacy.
If you want to study computer related courses, don’t try it in Nigeria it’s a waste of time, the lecturers have no idea so you won’t know anything
Wow, pls someone that is already a graduate in accounting with 2.1 but not employable what do you suggest such a person to do. Thanks
