For a better understanding of the topic, we have to begin with a brief focus of what ISO means.ISO means International Organisation for Standardization.It is an independent,non-governmental and international organisation that sets standards to ensure the quality,safety and efficiency of products,services and systems.It was established in 1947;and has its headquarters in Geneva,Switzerland.ISO is composed of representatives of various national standards organisations.It currently has about 164 members.

WHAT ARE ISO STANDARDS?
ISO standards are those guidelines,procedures,requirements etc developed and published by ISO to maintain and improve standards in different spheres.Each of these standards is associated with a code.For instance,ISO 9001,that focuses on quality management systems.ISO 14001,which deals with environmental management systems,ISO 22000, food safety etc.

WHY DO I NEED ISO CERTIFICATION AS A CORPORATE ENTITY?
In a world where the advancement in technology continuously shrinks the globe into a village,a world where best practices have become a norm,where stakeholders and consumers alike are increasingly becoming aware of their right to quality services and products, ISO certification becomes very important.ISO certification for an organisation gives assurance of the quality of products and services.It reduces or totally eliminates the cost of warranty for organisation,at the same time building the confidence of consumers.To localize it a little,in Nigeria,there is a rising demand for quality and standards.Many multinationals and global players can hardly have any business dealings with companies whose processes are not ISO compliant,the local content policy not withstanding.

Individual ISO certification unwraps a world of opportunities for you as an individual.The skills,knowledge you acquire through ISO certification guarantees a vertical career move.Companies are in a mad rush in sending those in their employment for ISO certification.This may be to create or even widen their pool of internal auditors.If you as an individual acquire ISO certification,for instance on ISO 9001,it helps you develop a career in quality management system auditing.
