Need Advice Please? by Midasdave(m): 3:42pm On Jan 27, 2020
My ordeal

I worked with an organization where I was to be given stipend as salary with the excuse of been on probation. Doing this Job, I was seriously looking forward to places I submitted my Resumé for interview.
After working with them for a month and a week, (salary not yet given). I got a mail to come for an interview in another better company.
Tryna observe protocol, I brought to their awareness in a formal letter about my going for an interview which was granted.
But on my resumption, I was handled sack letter with no salary. Meanwhile, I asked for the stipend but I was threatened with police. So not to end up in cell because of chicken change. I took their leave and never return there.

Location Abuja FCT
Company was owned by Igbo woman and being managed by her younger sister.

Need opinion
1. Is it improper to go for an interview(in another company) when on probation.
2. Why do you think I wasn't paid?
3. What should I do?

Pardon my grammatical error.

Your biggest error was informing them (your employer) of the interview.

Most privately owned businesses (one man business) tend to loose interest in staffs when they tell them they're going for an interview. They feel you would no longer be productive to them cos your interest lies elsewhere.

The best thing was to call in sick (report to work and form sickness)...tell them you want to treat yourself then you leave and attend your interview.

If you get lucky and you're given the job, you then tender a resignation letter.

It's not improper cos you're not in a cult neither did you enter into any form of covenant with them.

You weren't paid because your boss is heartless.

Concentrate on the interview you had with the new company. You mentioned that the money you were earning from the previous company was on the low side, therefore using legal means to fight for your rights would require you spending more than the amount you're expecting them to pay you. In my opinion I'll call it "pennywise pound foolish"
