In Nigeria, a road that shouldn't take more than 3 years to build will take 15 years. |

Coldie:What a lot of (no doubt tribally motivated) nonsense! How much ability does it take to take huge loans from the Chinese government to have Chinese companies bring Chinese laborers over to knock out new infrastructure projects? It's pure delusion to pretend that Amaechi has had anything to do with the pace of work on these projects other than to put his signature wherever the Chinese government's representatives told him to. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Coldie:I don't share this view, no doubt Amaechi would have performed also in lagos but it doesn't mean Fashola isn't performing now as minister. Note that road isn't like rail network in Nigeria, we have people using the road daily that you need to factor into your project work, construction on a rail line can be going on concurrently from Lagos to Ibadan with no itch but you can't try such on road as you need to cater for the thousands using the road daily 1 Like |

Cost of compensating owners of unplanned structures along motorways or many parts of Nigeria cities will be too prohibitive, it is unfortunate but development must not be held hostage by this circumstance. It is also unfortunate that some Niaralanders are unable to appreciate the necessity of any government or leadership proposals or policies in Nigeria unless an example of the kind is sited abroad. So , for this type of Niralander labelling Nigerians animals and the nation zoo because leadership is dismantling without compensation illegal and unsightly structures in many cities, I’ll have you know that many Western nations do enact laws that put many hundreds of people out of pocket without compensations effectively. Take England, for example. I use the term “Effectively” since in instances where the UK/London government does provide compensation, qualifications for these compensations are such that only very few can meet them. An example is the London's ultra-low emission zone that at once put out of pocket owners of diesel vehicles older than five years. To drive a diesel vehicle older than five years in certain parts of London you are required to pay £12.50 Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) daily charge in addition to £11.50 daily Congestion Zone charge. The policy impacted adversely self-employed Van drivers, electricians, Gas fitters, etc. It put hundreds out of work, since they could not afford the daily cost. To qualify for meaningful compensation in the form of a vehicle scrappage scheme (money to help you buy an electric vehicle for example) you have to be the owner of a business employing 50 or more people. Ninety-nine-point-nine percent of those affected are ordinary people, self employed or small business owners employing a few people. |

Coldie:Yea, true. Most of our issues as a nation is that we don't have intellectuals as the head, there is little branches can do. If we have a president like the current minister of communication (Patanmi) that can analyse issues, set targets and have his own way of getting feedback without waiting for aides to come tell him what he needs to hear, ministers go dey perform well |

YorubaPrince: Dude, you may be "savage" but abegi leave the rest of us out of it... Meanwhile, these buildings encroach on the Right of Way, and like someone said above the laws should have been enforced long ago against the buildings/builders (if the concerned public servants were not seeking/receiving gratification), but better late than never. > 1 Like |
