Goodgod213: What you need is a through research from players in the industry, I doubt you will get much from here. I will suggest you prepare some set of questions about starting up a unisex saloon, visit 5 barbing saloon in your area while cutting or shaping your hair ask your prepared questions you can put your phone on record to document the responses. When waiting your turn at the barber's you can ask the other people waiting for the kind of service they will require. Let your wife do same in the female saloon. I believe you will be able to gain info on how to judiciously invest your capital. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I for one will tell you never to joke with wallpaper design. 500k will not be enough but it will go a long way Wallpaper Generator Mirrors Glass doors Fans Sterilizers Hair Sprays Cover alls with opening for customers to press their device while you attend to them. TV directly in front of customers for easy view mp3 player for entertainment Cable TV Lighting.... do not joke with this Hairs for the ladies Water dispenser and Chewing Gum for customers Chairs. Location should be very important. be wise while choosing it. I have a similar business like this I set up for my Lady. took a few millions depending on taste but still 500k can still give you what you want. all the best 7 Likes 2 Shares |

First, what kind of male customers would like to come get hair cut in the same shop where ladies are..? I am saying this because of certain experience I have had. Next, the business you hope to go in, like every other business is involving. Are you a stylist or at least a barber on your own to know about the ever-changing trends in that area? Do you know about hair care products for the customers. If I get your question correctly, I am sure you have put all those into consideration. As for the shop rent, it is good to get a place that is near or along a walkway. Don't set up such business where cars would just be running off and have no parking space. The cabinets and waiting seats and mirrors are the next in line. The product like "weav-ons" and wigs for people that would like to come make their hair with the products you sell to them. The kind of waiting seats you have would determine how the customers would be willing to pay for your services. Are you going to condition the air? Hair dryers or hand held dryers, straighteners, pressers, mannequins and pedicure paraphernalia. (forgive my grammar) Ask your self the category you would want your shop to belong. Is it going to for the rich, not-too-rich or ordinary customer. With all these, the amount you are budgeting for the set up would come to your mind. Finally, if you don't have someone to be monitoring the activities of the workers, be ready to stay around always. All the best! 9 Likes 3 Shares |

My man, don’t start that business except if you or your woman is a practitioner. Most hands working in that industry are unstable if they can’t steal. There is never any sufficient amount to start a business except your will and commitment. You will perfect the act when you start. Business is not done on the basis of somebody’s opinion. Good luck 2 Likes |

In the end, it is not what you want but customers' need that is essential. You need to do an intensive market research especially about what the customers around that area need. Relax and ask yourself who your prospective customers are? What will they need? Why should they leave the salon they ve been patronizing before now. What UNIQUE experience am I bringing to the table. These information can only be gotten by DOING a business location research, from there you can draft your concept note. A friend of mine that is not very religious, decided to set up a salon around my area in September last year. Ordinarily, he would have joined the bandwagon, but from his research, he noticed that religious parents were concerned about the kind of music and videos that are been played in salons around. That became the unique experience. And sincerely the guy is doing well. There is no need setting up a "high class" salon in a "low class area". You won't break even in the end. The default mindset here will be that your services are '"expensive" and because you need to take care of your workers and also carter for depreciation you may not afford certain price threshold. My advice: Seek that unique value and you shall find it. 4 Likes |

To get the best answer to this enquiry you create a list of all you need then do a window shopping (could be online or offline) to get their prices and enquire for the cost of some other services like fitting in electricals and furnitures and you are good to go. 1 Like |

Check the picture of my boss shop above, he spent approximately 600k to build the salon and it's not unisex..... The 500k you mentioned won't be enough to build a unisex, try and get more money 2 Likes

Goodgod213: Start with whatever you have and the standard it can produce, just ensure the place looks very decent and you have great service delivery. You will scale up later and bring to fruition, the vision of what you truly desire. Having too much money to do business, especially one you are quite inexperienced in can really be a problem, sometimes it's best you don't have enough funds at inception. 2 Likes |

I’m also into this business but not in naija.here only rent has taken all the 500k but now let’s exclude rent in my first shop I have 2 wall dryers like the ones in that pic(30k each)one pedicure bowl(20k)2 big mirrors(40k),one hand dryer(5k),Electric kettle (5k),2 clippers (15k+30k),one sterilizer(25k),one Tower warmer(30k),one ceiling fan and standing fan(10k+8k),the glass door(100k),then I couldn’t afford (almanco)table I used wood which cost around 20k,for combs, relaxer, shampoo, hair creams, hair sprayers dyes, towels, hears guard, jackets, scissors, spirit, hair treatment creams,(budget 150-200k) cos I can’t remember all right now unless I’m in the shop to look round and list all also think about the wiring. Don’t be discouraged by the time you spend all the 500k you can add more things as you begin to make money if your wife is an hairdresser and she’s good then you have an advantage.addition: chairs i bought four chairs that type that rotate I don’t know the name(approximately 100k) six ordinary plastic chairs2.5k each which I later added more 2 Likes |
