The National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno, has dismissed speculation in some quarters that Thursday’s meeting of the National Security Council discussed the fate of the country’s service chiefs.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday presided over the 2020 maiden meeting of the National Security Council with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and the security chiefs in attendance.

The meeting came amidst calls in some quarters for the removal of the service chiefs due to the ongoing security challenges in some parts of the country.

The House of Representatives had on Wednesday called on the service chiefs to either resign or be sacked in view of their inability to proffer solutions to the nation security challenges.

Monguno, however, told State House correspondents at the end of the security meeting that the council which is the highest security body in the country chaired by the President, did not discuss the issue of the service chiefs.

“The issue of the National Assembly resolution did not come up at the meeting,’’ he said. The NSA said the quarterly meeting focused on appraisal of the security situation across the country with a view to finding lasting solutions to the problem.

He said: “The meeting basically made an appraisal of the current security situation in the country and took a look at the possibilities, the opportunities available to government in addressing most of the recent challenges.

“There were discussions and at the end of the day, the most important thing that we came up with is the need for collaboration, both between governmental agencies and the larger Nigerian society because of the type of the insurgencies we are faced with, the complexities, the multiplicity of all kinds of issues.

“There is a need for both parties, governmental agencies on one hand and the larger society to collaborate more vigorously. There is a need for us to deal with these problems in a comprehensive manner.

“Therefore, council has decided to take a closer look at issues that will help us not just at the federal level or at the state level, but right down to the local government level.“But this is going to be done after due consultations with the relevant stakeholders,’’ the NSA said.

Expired and worn out service chiefs being recycled. These people so much lack military stamina now that they have resort to establishing military universities in their respective state of origin without NASS approval. This is not helping the deteriorating insecurity and productivity in the armed forces.

I'm sorry, the security situation can never get better if the indiscriminate illegal activities of the police, sars, dss and others are not checked.
Why should I report a security situation as a private citizen when I'm might become the suspect just because I reported and I end up paying thousands in the name of bail.
Why should police and others raid people's business premises just to generate fund?
Nobody is ready to solve all this but you want to improve the quality of service, foolish old men stealing our money and wasting the rest

Instead of complaining we should be praying for our leaders. Ranting on various media will do nothing for the Nation

Those expecting Buhari to sack his service chiefs should forget it. They are part of his Jihadic force against Infidels in Nigeria. Even if buhari sacks them, he will replace them with new sets of northern islamist with the same agenda.
What Nigerians should be callong for is buhari's resignation.
You can't gove what you don't have.

Imagine the effrontery.

As an elected president, the national assembly called for the sack of the service chiefs, then you hold a meeting the next day and the issue was not even mentioned.

You know why?

Because he's got his rubber stamp fools as heads of the legislature.

Imagine Saraki's NASS had come out with this resolution, believe me, even if it wasn't obeyed, it would have been mentioned.

We are in a mess.

APC really divided Nigeria with their kind of politics.

It will be difficult to unite the country again.

The service chiefs have long overstayed their welcome which is not encouraging productivity. This have blocked the chance of younger productive officers the opportunity to be service chiefs too.

So you are calling the younger one to come take over in other to destroy security architecture. So you can blame Buhari for incompetence.

Buhari gross cluelessness and incompetency have long been on display for all to see.He was enlisted into the army not based on merit.Tunde Idiagbon ruled for him in 1983-85.The cabal are doing so again today.

The military have a caste system wherein they progress. A generation give way for another in order to encourage productivity.Soldier go, soldier come, barracks remain the same as we use to say in the back then.
