The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly.

The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, walked into the venue of the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 3.04pm.

The agenda of the closed-door meeting is not disclosed officially.

However, The PUNCH gathered from credible National Assembly sources that Lawan and Gbajabiamila came to formally hand over last week’s resolutions of both chambers on the state of insecurity in the country to Buhari.

Recall that last week, the House had urged the President to sack the service chiefs.

On its part, the Senate sought the declaration of emergency on insecurity.

“The Senate President and the Speaker are here to present the resolutions to Mr President.

“They also will hear Mr President’s answers to take to their colleagues in the chambers on Tuesday (tomorrow)”, a National Assembly official informed The PUNCH.

Everybody seems surprised by high wave of insecurity in the North even when it is obvious that over the years
- the IRRESPONSIBLE breeding of children
- the UNCARING Almajiri system
- and the SHORT-SIGHTEDNESS of Northern leaders
all conspired to raise a generation of young men who are functionally uneducated, unskilled and jobless, and often undisciplined.

This ever-growing large number of these young men have always been a TIME BOMB that looked sure to detonate. The adventurous ones left for major towns, stumbled on opportunities and became artisans, maiguards, farmhands, shoeshiners, water-fetchers and Okada riders. Many more got trapped in the village and scraped along. Many of these trapped ones have, obviously turned to violent crimes for survival.

The tragedy in all of these is that even in year 2020 with all banditry and violent crimes going on, no NORTHERN GOVERNOR or LEGISLATOR is bold enough to touch the Almajiri issue. Even Emir Sanusi's fatherly words of advice on responsible parenthood have been rebuffed.

I am not a prophet but I dare say that things may get worse unless the current visionless and selfish Governors and legislators change their attitude and work to, firstly, empower these unfortunate young population helping them to engage in rewarding productive activities. And secondly, reform Almajiri system as well as encourage responsible parenthood.

Insecurity indeed!

You perpetuate service chiefs whose service years were 2 months or thereabouts away from ending and 5 years down the lane, their course mates and 4-5 other courses behind them have been retired and denied the prestige of reaching the zeniths of their professions, and you are surprised at dissents and possible saboteurs to the phantom war on BH?

Mad people at the helms....

That GMB was re-elected is evidence that truly people deserve the leaders they get. People should just sit-in and enjoy three additional years of "next level"

It's worse when many of the people who make an excuse for his gross incompetence are those who are bearing the consequences the most.
