vicardino:Thanks so much sir, before I can prescribe a medication to you, I'll like to know the location and severity of the injury (what you see as slight, may be different from the way I see it). Hence I'll be very happy if you could snap the site of injury, so that I can properly assess the injury and prescribe appropriate medications. NB: You can post the pictures on this thread or via whatzapp. I hope this helps |

Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 10:49am On Dec 26, 2020 |
vicardino:Okay sir, I've examined the pics you've sent, inasmuch as you said the injury is slight, I'll suggest we don't take chances. So I'll recommend the following: 1) Since the wound looks like its clean, I'll recommend you continue cleaning the wound with methylated spirit BUT this time around apply GV (Gentian Violet, a purple ointment also used in humans to treat wound), twice a day (morning and night), 2) Then I'll also recommend you administer a broad spectrum prophylactic antibiotics which would fight any secondary microbial infection that can affect the wound/body (I'll prescribe the best antibiotics to you via mail/WhatsApp, because it's unethical to do so publicly on social media), 3) Lastly please put your mind at rest and give us feedback on any development. I hope this helps? |

Good afternoon doc, I have a kitten of about 5 weeks. I need supplements for it. |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 10:04pm On Dec 27, 2020 |
LordPherule:Good evening sir, I personally would not recommend any supplements or multivitamin, rather I would recommend high quality nutritious foods, which has all the necessary nutrients and supplements in a balanced and right amount. It is only in disease condition or deficiencies would it be imperative for supplement and multivitamins administration. In conclusion don't stress yourself, just simply give good and nutritious food to your cat, like fish, meat, milk etc BUT AVOID GARLIC AND ONIONS, they are dangerous to cats. I hope this helps!!! 1 Like |

Hello Dr. Seun, My Lhasa Apso gave birth over a month ago and since then, her vulva is always stained like this. Please is this normal and what else can I do to assist a nursing dam so she and her puppies will be in good health?

Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 8:28am On Dec 28, 2020 |
Bubewilson:Good morning sir, truth be told, It would be improper for me to make a diagnosis based on this picture alone sir, I would have to further ask some few questions from you in order to make an accurate diagnosis. For example, which other signs are you observing? Do you observe pain in the area? Is there any discharge? How did the delivery go? Have you applied any medication so far? The answers to these questions would go a long way in assisting ALTHOUGH personally to me it doesn't seem okay. Once you can assist me in making an accurate diagnosis, I would tell you what to do next. |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 8:56am On Dec 28, 2020 |
Bubewilson:Concerning your second question. First of all, I'll recommend you feed your dam with a highly nutritious diet for example diet rich in calcium, iron and other essential vitamins like meat, fish, egg and milk. Secondly, please keep your dam and the pups warm and avoid exposure to harsh weather condition. Thirdly, vaccination is very essential as at when due. Lastly, ensure you have access to a licensed and qualified veterinarian for regular check up and you too should be very observant in case you notice any sign. I hope this helps!!! |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 9:17am On Dec 28, 2020 |
Henuell:Good morning sir, I'm so sorry to say, but it is ABNORMAL. Although it's not something you should panic about. A very good dewormer would suffice. Personally I usually recommend albendazole- based dewormer like wormoff®, zentel® etc, they have proven over time to be very effective. I hope this helps!!! |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by Nobody: 12:42am On Dec 29, 2020 |
seunH: Thank you sir for your response. For the much I know, the delivery went well, she had all her puppies with no human assistance and they are all alive. She doesn't show any sign of pain when I clean the area, instead she readily lies on her back/side for a belly scratch. The stain is sticky always, and doesn't smell to me. I don't know whether it's a discharge or urine. She has had no medications yet. |

Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 8:57am On Dec 29, 2020 |
Bubewilson:Then you have nothing to fear sir, just keep cleaning the area with a clean cotton wool soaked in mild antiseptic regularly. The discharge would stop very soon, but if it is prolonged or you notice any other sign or symptom, please don't hesitate to call our attention. |

Good morning sir, please my a quack doctor admistered an Injection to my dog and now he is having abscess in back legs please what do I do.....? I am very worried sir. |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 12:33pm On Dec 29, 2020 |
harmony940:Good morning sir, and I'm so sorry about what happened. First, I will want you to calm down and don't panic, its an issue that can be resolved. Secondly, please avoid using hot or cold compress or even attempting to burst the abscess, it aggravates the condition. Thirdly, I would prescribe a pain reliever that has strong anti inflammatory properties in order to reduce pain (I'm sure your dog won't be able to use that area very well because of pain) & reduce the swelling and also a broad spectrum antibiotic in order to fight any bacterial infection and then finally I'll prescribe some multivitamins to you in order to boost your dog's immune system and enable faster healing. I'll DM these drugs to you via email or whatzapp |

Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by Nastymarz(m): 1:17pm On Dec 30, 2020 |
Good day sir. Was hoping you could shed some light on feeding dogs with fish food |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by Osemond123(m): 1:32pm On Dec 30, 2020 |
Nastymarz: Seriously I need to get information about this fish feed. |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 3:03pm On Dec 30, 2020 |
Nastymarz:Good afternoon, sorry for the delay. Fish food is an excellent source of balanced diet for dogs because fishes are rich in animal protein which are important for growth and repair of body tissues and oil which helps in inflammation. In fact during crises, dogs can survive only on fish for a very long time without any other food. However, there are some downsides associated with fish feeding which I'll itemize below; RAW FISH- Avoid feeding your dog with raw fish, this is due to the fact that raw fishes contain some harmful microorganisms like bacteria (Salmonella) etc which may poison or cause illness to your dog if eaten raw. Hence ensure the fish is properly cooked before given to your dog. ALLERGY- Some dogs are allergic to fish food or anything fish, this is because fishes trigger allergic reactions to such dog. Hence ensure you introduce fish food to you dog little by little and not suddenly so as to gradually confirm your dog's allergic status. FRIED FISH- Frying your fish excessively in oil may be harmful to your dog, due to the fact that excess oil in the fish due frying causes stomach upset & other digestive system disease and even obesity, hence boiled fish, grilled fish or lightly fried fish is much more preferable FISH BONE- Bones in fish can lodge in the digestive system of your dog causing serious harm to your dog. Hence ensure the bones are totally removed before been fed to your dog. In conclusion, if the above guidelines can be followed, your dog would get the best benefit from fish food without any drawbacks. I hope this helps!!! MODIFIED The poster who asked the question was referring to "feeds given to fishes". With regards "feeds given to fishes", that one may have issues, because some of the methods used to process these fishes may be unhygienic and some would even have started growing moulds on them thereby making them toxic to dogs. Hence, except you are sure of the processing, components and preparation methods, its not really advisable. |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by Henuell(m): 8:24am On Dec 31, 2020 |
seunH:Pls Sir,can i_also use Wormin or Red carterat.? |
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 8:50am On Dec 31, 2020 |
Henuell:Personally, I would still insist you go for an albendazole based dewormer like Wormoff®, Zentel® etc. Wormin® is a mebendazole based dewormer not albendazole BUT if you can't find any albendazole based dewormer, you can use the Wormin® like that, its also good too. For the Red caterat, I'm not familiar with the drug, I guess you didn't get the spelling right. If its with you, you can snap it. 1 Like |
