Kenya's former President Daniel Arap Moi has died at the age of 95.
Kenya's longest serving President, who died on Monday, rose to power in 1978 upon the death of Kenya's first President Jomo Kenyatta.
He was the East African country's longest-serving president, occupying the office for 24 years - from 1978 until 2002.
His death was announced on Tuesday morning by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a presidential proclamation.
The retired president died at the Nairobi Hospital on the early morning of 4 February in the presence of his family, according to the statement.
Kenya has declared an indefinite period of national mourning following the death.
The country will observe a period of national mourning from Tuesday until the day of his funeral, which has not been set.
Mr Moi will be accorded a state funeral, with all appropriate civilian and full military honours being observed.
President Kenyatta also ordered that flags be flown at half-mast "as an expression of public sorrow" from Tuesday until sunset on the day of Mr Moi's burial.
RIP to Arap Moi.

According to BBC Africa, I quote:

"Kenyans on Twitter have been sharing their memories about Moi's presidency, one topic that many are talking about is the "free school milk programme."

The ministry of education used to distribute free packets of milk to all primary schools, targeting children under the age of 13.

The programme, which ran between the 1980s to the 1990s, was aimed at improving the health of school children.

The education ministry at the time said the programme helped to boost school attendance."

His son, Senator Gideon Moi has been briefing the media about his death.

"He passed away peacefully" at 05:20 local time (02:20 GMT), Gideon Moi said of his father.

He added that he was at his father's side.
