LASU Saga! How Prof. Hussein Served As Conduit for Bola Tinubu User Rating: / 1 Poor Best Rate The truth is beginning to come to light concerning the several allegations leveled against the embattled Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Lagos, Professor Lateef Hussein. The Professor was said to have squandered a whooping N17 billion and another N2.5 billion since he became the administrative head of the institution currently under the hammer of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Political watchers in the State also believe that the VC is going to be a subject of another political crisis that may envelope the State as it prepares for the 2011 elections. While the State lawmakers want him removed because they can no longer bear his excesses, the Governor, Babatunde Fashola, says the sack of Professor Hussein was not his priority as all he was concerned about is rescuing the institution from total collapse despite the glaring maladministration of the school since 2005. Many do not know why he was allegedly dictatorial or why he acted with impunity till the members of the State House of Assembly began to raise eyebrow. Huhuolnline.com has learnt that he was completely untouchable because of his affiliation with the former Governor of the State and stalwart of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. A source close to the Vice Chancellor explained that the Professor was only used as a draining pipe. The source who would want to remain anonymous, further stated that most of the funds that were earmarked for the development of the institution were actually redirected to fighting the election tribunal cases of the ACN gubernatorial candidates of other States especially in the South-Western part of the country. According to the source, "The VC actually had no money to really work. Whatever amount you hear were sent to the school, just know that some people somewhere had tampered with it. "It is quite painful that these people who knew where the various amount went now turned their backs against the innocent man. I am quite sure they want to use and dump him for political reasons." He also confided in Huhuonline.com that it would be difficult to sack the VC as he may be forced to expose some people who have their fingers soiled in the issue. "Believe me; his case is going to be a hard nut to crack for Governor Fashola because the person who the Governor looks up to for power is the same person that the VC is placing his hope. He however agreed that Vice Chancellor Hussein went beyond his powers in the administration of the school as he thought he would continue to have the support of the government that was already handicapped due to the interference of ex-Governor Tinubu. "He actually thought that since he had secrets, they would always allow him to have his way but I remember warning him especially about Dr. Abubakar Momoh, who had long qualified to be a Professor. "For some reasons I may not be able to tell you now, the political scientist was continuously frustrated and if not for the love he had for the institution, he would have long been gone," the source claimed. The Speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, while reprimanding the VC when he was summoned to the House early this week, reminded him of how he appealed on behalf Momoh who is a notable Political Scientist. The speaker said he was surprised that months after the appeal, the VC had decided to do his own wish making the lawmakers look stupid. The current move by the State Governor to downplay the instruction on the sack of the VC by the lawmakers may soon pitch him against them politically as the Speaker is known to be a fierce fighter. More would be known on this issue when the lawmakers resume from their two weeks recess on November 8th this year. However, this is not the first time Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will employ unlawful means to achieve a valid course. Recall that during Sanni Abacha`s regime, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who was exiled in Chicago, Illinois, USA; illegally sold controlled substance (white heroin), and allegedly used earnings from it to finance NADECO activities. Abridged Text of Bola Tinubu`s Conviction ββThe United States of America, by its attorney, Michael J.
