LEAST KNOWN FACTS ABOUT AFRICA, highlights most of the most amazing discoveries about the Africa continent. Here are 10 least known facts that were specially handpicked and selected.

1 About 60% of the fastest runners in the world come from a single tribe in Kenya, known as the Kalenjin

2. Four Out of the 5 fastest land animals reside in Africa. The Lion, the wildebeest, the gazelle and the Cheetah. All of these animals can run above 50mph, with the cheetah reaching a top speed of about 70mph

3 Sudan has more than 200 pyramids. This is almost double the number of pyramids found in Egypt, unfortunately they are less famous and barely attract any form of tourism

4 Africa has the highest reserve of precious metals, with over half of the gold ever mined on earth has come from a single place, Witwatersrand, South Africa.

5 Experts estimate that there are at least 3,000 Distinct Ethic Groups in Africa. Nigeria alone accounts for more than 370 recognized tribes within it's population. Africa is currently the 2nd most populous continent after Asia with over 25% of its population under 25 years old.

6 Ethiopia is the only African country with it's own alphabet. It's also the world's oldest alphabet -Ethiopic- and probably one of the longest with about 345 letters.

7 Africa and Europe are separated by less than 9 miles at the strait of Gibraltar, which separates spain from morocco. The two countries are discussing the construction of an under-sea rail tunnel to connect the rail systems on the two continents.

8 In south Africa you are legally allowed to attach flame throwers to your car in order to deter carjacking and stealing. The blaster system uses liquefied petroleum gas which are installed along the sides of the vehicle.

9 Didier Drogba is credited with bringing peace to his country. After the Ivory Coast qualified for the 2006 World Cup, Drogba made a desperate plea to the combatants, asking them to lay down their arms, a plea which was answered with a cease fire after five years of civil war.

10 Africa is home to the world's largest land animal, the African Elephant.
