For every action, there's an opposite and equal reaction. Words never just go because they are like arrows shot.
Gossiping takes lot of energy from one without his/her knowledge.
Christ referenced to this a lot in his speech. He said:"ye judge not for however you judge is equally how you'll be judged". You do not know what caused the victim to act in whatsoever way that you find somewhat displeasing so if you cant confront the brother/sister, then you keep shut and remain at peace for you do not know how far your words can hurt the victim.
Jesus also said:"If you spoil a brother/sister's name to others, you have to try to restore his/her name" . In case you have been gossiping before now, this is your way of making amends. Other quotes of Jesus on this topic include:"Do to others what you want them to do to you"etc
For those who are aware of people that gossip about them, if you find truth in what they say, you try to change if not, then you go on with your life for their words do not define who you are.
