I light a million candles for my beloved, Okwuchukwu (Okwy) Ugbana who passed on February 7, 2008. You were the kindest person I ever knew. You gave so much yet you expected so little. You were loved by everyone who knew you. You were always there when I needed a friend to talk to or a shoulder to lean on. Till this day I cannot believe you are gone forever. Everyday since you passed I have made a wish, from wishing I could just see your face one more time to wishing you were still here, But the good Lord knows best. I console myself everyday with the fact that you were a true christian; you lived for and loved the Lord dearly, and you did his will. I spoke to you the day before and i didnt even say, "I love you" or "Goodbye", but you know deep in your heart how i feel about you. I never thought you would die, I mean, how could I have? I guess I took that for granted and I am sorry. I am trying to move on but it is hard. It is hard not talking you everyday like I did in the past, or sharing my dreams and aspirations with you, or you teasing me and telling me about business and stuff. I know you are in a better place, for that reason, I am happy. I pray we meet again, someday, soon, But till that day I will miss you everyday, I LOVE YOU! I have dedicated this song (Bye bye by Mariah Carey) to you everyday since its release and I know my fellow nairalanders who have lost someone dear will find solace in its words, This is for my peoples Who just lost somebody Your best friend, your baby, your man or your lady Put your hand way up high We will never say bye No, no, no Mamas, daddies, sisters, brothers, Friends and cousins This is for my peoples Who lost their grandmothers Lift your head to the sky Cause we will never say bye As a child there were them times I didn't get it But you kept me in line I didn't know why You didn't show up sometimes On Sunday mornings and I missed you But I'm glad we talked through All them grown folk things Separation brings You never let me know it You never let it show Because you loved me and obviously There's so much more left to say If you were with me today Face to face I never knew I could hurt like this And everyday life goes on I wish I could talk to you for a while Miss you but I try not to cry As time goes by And it's true that you've Reached a better place Still I'd give the world to see your face And be right here next to you But it's like you're gone too soon Now the hardest thing to do is say Bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye You never got a chance to see How good I've done And you never got to See me back at number one I wish that you were here To celebrate together I wish that we could Spend the holidays together I remember when you used to Tuck me in at night With the teddy bear you gave me That I held so tight I thought you were so strong You'd make it through whatever It's so hard to accept the fact You're gone forever I never knew I could hurt like this And everyday life goes on I wish I could talk to you for a while Miss you but I try not to cry As time goes by And it's true that you've Reached a better place Still I'd give the world to see your face And be right here next to you But it's like you're gone too soon Now the hardest thing to do is say Bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye This is for my peoples Who just lost somebody Your best friend, your baby Your man or your lady Put your hand way up high We will never say bye Mamas, daddies, sisters, brothers Friends and cousins This is for my peoples Who lost their grandmothers Lift your head to the sky Cause we will never say bye, bye. I never knew I could hurt like this And everyday life goes on I wish I could talk to you for a while Miss you but I try not to cry As time goes by And it's true that you've Reached a better place Still I'd give the world to see your face And be right here next to you But it's like you're gone too soon Now the hardest thing to do is say Bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye Bye bye

papa, even in here ill put on a candle for you. you ve been gone 11 years now but the pain so much seems it has come to stay. your teachings discipline and the fear of God you encraved into my heart in my most tender years as made me who i am today, only that i cant get to see the smile on your face as i live my life to make all your dreams come true. the hollow you left in me is too deep that nothing as been able to fill, not love, success or friendship. if i could wish for any thing it will still be time with you, but since i cant have that, adieu papa, adieu daddy, adieu |

I light a candle for my grandpa. It's been almost 10 years now. I wish I was old enough to really get to know you before you left us. But, all I have are photos and our family's recollection of the man that you were. I pray that I find a man with the same principles and values like you had. I really miss you! |

I light candles and envelope the universe in light for my youngest brother. You were one of the funniest, weirdest and warmest human beings it's been my privilege to know and adore, and I miss you so much I cannot tell you. I miss your inventive cheating, our talks and your dreams, and your craziness, and your stubborness and your wacky humour and your conceit over your good looks and your unbelieveable niceness. It was your deep and unusual compassion for others that undergirded our bond, and today and always I wonder why I didn't go instead of you. I wish I could have. I love you so much. I miss you so much. We all do. You left us all heartbroken. |
