Chapter 1
If a man could be dead on the street of Lagos and no one took cognizance of it, Emma wondered why anyone would care to look at her for staring at the gentleman leaning against wall. He was sad, and oddly, it aroused her, wetting her all the way. She wondered how her desire was becoming stronger by the day. It shouldn’t control her, but it did. She want to lick sadness of his dimly lit face.
Nigerians would see her as a cheap slut, but would she have minded? What was their concern? She was hungry. For sex. But not just any other sex. She wanted to punish someone.
The previous night had the fun coming her way. The weak beta guy, however, wanted to prove that he was an alpha male. Something she knew before she seduced him. That was one thing she hated about beta and zeta guys who wanted to cross over to the alpha male zone. Their heads are full of shit and always her feel weak whenever they came towards them. Just a stare from her, she knew where the class they belonged.
Yesterday night’s mistake was probably from too much buzz. She wouldn’t have seduced him enough to make him even suddenly begin to man up and talk to her condescendingly. She only smiled at him and faked being on her period.
Darkness gradually cloaked the ugliness of Abule-Egba, but she couldn’t go near him. The Island had been a bad hand all these while. Her favorite foods were in the suburbs.
Don't go. Don't go, She thought.
Her eyes traced his body as she imagined things she good to him. It felt good. Torturing a man like that felt good. She licked her lips. No. She must get her head out of the cloud.
‘I will…drive off’, she murmured.
So, she drove off. Then, something else occurred to her. If he was there, she would surely look for a way to speak to him. She drove around a bit but her mind was glued to the young sad man. No other option. She returned to him but had to stop somewhere not far from him.
A short girl was vibrating as she was vehemently talking to him. Emma packed her car to see if she still had the chance or if all she needed was to go to the stripper club and pay those playful boys. Many of them always wanted to extend their one-night to a full-fledge relationship. Money was indeed a bastard.
What will she do with their lousy relationships? She just needed something to arouse her and people to use as she wished.
'You are not man enough! How will Chidinma talk to you that way and you allow her to go scot free', the short lanky girl said? Her jeans were too tight for her to be called beauty.
‘Kemi, thanks for trying to savage the matter and I’m sorry for wasting your time’.
'You did. I would have beaten her to a pulp. I need you to be a man,' Kemi lamented.
'By hitting her,' he asked.
'Yes. Hit her. Make her feel loved by pain', Kemi said. ‘Let her know you’re the man in that relationship’.
'But I don't want that…'
'You don't want what! Women love it. All men love to do it. Pain is exciting'.
'Madness! I know. But inflicting pain… None of you… None…'
Kemi stared at him for a while and walked off. She was definitely not ready to spend any time with a sissy, and Emma felt for him. The young man wanted to be a gentleman, and she was acting up at him. Out of nowhere, her voice came again.
'Julius, you're a woman. A Fucking woman. Useless to the core. You're a fucking woman. Ah!'
‘Whoa!’
That was exciting to watch. She allowed him to walk ahead before driving off to meet him.
Emma remained in her car and watched his behind with some excitement she had never understood before. If only she could have a reason to help him in this time of pain, she would have realized how much he could do.
Go home, she thought.
Her phone beeped. Solape was on the line.
'Babe… Can I call you in a few minutes? I'm busy…' She said hurriedly.
'Where are you?' Solape asked.
Emma quickly looked about in her car and was happy that the vehicle was wound up, and that would help her lie well.
'I'm in the toilet.'
'Good! You leave that place this minute and open this door for me. And why did you take your key away from the flower pot… And what are you doing with your phone in the toilet…
'I'm not home.'
'What? I thought you said toilet'.
'Yes. I'm at a toilet. I'm at a toilet… Erm. In a bar. Not too far from home. I just drove to a bar to watch things and drink’.
'Girlie. You're a dunce. I'm here. I've been at home staring at Africa magic, hugging my pillow, finishing bowl of ice cream by myself, and you're going to a bar by yourself….
'Don't worry. I'll be on my way…'
'And be alone again. Not possible. You're not coming soon that one is so sure.’
'I promise. I'm leaving already. I will just tell this gentleman to excuse me…'
'Gentle. Emmy, what's happening? Why will you call someone a gentleman? Who's with you? Are you with Gbolahan again?’
'Hell no!'
She watched the young man walk away and wanted to cry. I will kill this girl if this boy escapes my grasp, she wondered.
'Good! Ah! This would have been the end of you this night. So, why can't I come over…?'
'Stay put! Ah! Your wahala no be here. I'm coming…
'Where's the key…?’
'Oh! Shit! I took it with me. Just sit at the staircase na. Since you've opened my building already, I should be with you soon'.
Solape was silent on the other end.
'What?' Emma asked.
'Did I say anything…'
'I know you…' Emma said and saw the guy trying to enter a bungalow that had poor lighting. She banged on her horn before she could stop herself.
'What was that?'
'Oh! Get off my phone. Solape. I'll be with you now. Lea’me. I'll kill you… If I'm involved in an accident.’
'Bolo'…
She disconnected the call. The guy looked back for a fraction of seconds before he continued walking. So, she honked twice again.
You're just disgracing your father here, she thought.
She hissed and couldn't help but pray that her father was resting in his house. At least, he had given her the right to be whatever she wanted in life, and this was what she wanted to be.
The young man looked and touched his chest. She gritted. But she had nothing to fear. She wasn’t popular and had no fear as to been recognized. She wound the glass of her car and yelled,' Yes, you. A few seconds'.
She wouldn't want people to see her face. So, she waited for him to come nearer before she switched on the interior light. And this time, her long wig was enough to cover her face.
She caught a reflection of herself in the mirror and marveled at her beauty. Why would any man reject her offer? She was magnificent and wouldn't mind remaining young. But she was in her late 20s, and there was no coming back from that. Everyone was already reminding her about the ticking clock, making it look as if she was getting old age, getting near her grave.
Love should be interesting. Not fearful. The same fear in her father’s eyes any time she talked to him about relationship. The old man had tried his wrinkled hand at different relationships but had failed at each of them.
The first was the worst. Emma accepted the woman because Emma because she needed a mother figure in her life. That experience made her hate every other relationship her father had. After a while, he stopped trying. And he wasn’t ready to listen to her numerous suggestions to try again. Instead, his time is now spent with drab newspapers and the bland, monotonous newscasters.
'Do you love this foolish ugly thing…' She once asked her dad as he stared at the TV in awe.
'Which foolish thing?' He glanced at her.
She kept mute until he fathomed what she meant.
He scoffed. 'That's cold. I just listen to them. By the way, they are foreigner'.
'I can work them over to you from wherever they are. If you love them, just tell me. Why will you like to be alone'.
He smiled and made a jest of her.
The young man she called walked towards her trepiditiously.
'Evening,' he said.
'Hi,' she said and momentary looked at her opened blouse. Her boobs were popping out into the full bloom of the car’s ray of light. This method of seduction worked every time on men.
'Car I help you with anything, ma’am?'
Although she had all the formats on how to get a man strewn everywhere in her head, she couldn't fathom how she became so lost.
'I… Wow!' She said. His face was now in the full ray of light. He was one extremely handsome man that looked as if he just had been lifted out of a pool of honey. His soft well-trimmed beard couldn't be compared to the small pink lips that plopped at her.
'What's that?'
'I'm sorry. I was just lost for words there. I'm lost. Someone drove me down…I don't even know how to explain. How do I get to Ogba from here… ?’
'Oh! It's simple. Just go back the way you came, and you will get to Abule-Egba bus stop then head straight towards the Agege side…'
'I know my way from Abule-Egba. I just don't know how to get to Abule-Egba…'
He stared at her.
She smiled, dazzling him with her extremely white teeth. 'Just the description. I'm good with crazy stuffs like that…'
He looked about. 'You know what? Let me just show you your way?'
'Are you sure?'
'No worries,' he said and tried opening the locked door. She aided him with a button on her side of the car. The Venza opened, and he climbed in. Then, he directed her. His heart, so tender, she wanted to squeeze it for being so cute.
As soon as they got to the roundabout, he decided to get down, but she insisted on taking him back home.
'No. I will really be fine', he said firmly.
'I should thank you. Somehow. Some day. Do you have a phone?'
He scoffed. 'In this generation.'
'Fine boys like you… You might not have a phone number'.
'Ah!'
She gave him her Iphone. 'Please do me the honor. I should find a way to thank you'.
He nodded and typed his number. She sighed as soon as he bade her farewell.
'I will spoil, punish, nurse, and enslave someone's son,' she muttered as she sped off.
Her phone blinked to announce Solape’s call. Emma would kill her, no doubt.
She spied the naughty girl from afar but stopped the car; then, quickly transferred ten thousand naira card to his number and texted him.
'Don't call me now. I will call you when I want to thank you. Take that small recharge card for wasting your precious time. Be a good boy'.
