As the 2019 ICAN March exams draws closer, you start experiencing stress and anxiety.
Though a little nervousness can actually help you to perform at your best.
However, when this distress become so excessive
it actually interfere with your performance on an exam it is known as exam anxiety.
Have you been in a situation where you got into the exam hall
and you blank out on answers, even the easiest one you didn't not remember?
If yes then
that is exactly what exam anxiety does.
But what causes exam anxiety?

Exam anxiety can be caused by a number of things
1. A history of poor exam outcomes. If you have done poorly in an exam before,
either because you didn't study well enough or because you were so anxious,
you couldn't remember the answers, this can cause even more anxiety
and a negative attitude every time you have to take another exam.

2. Being unprepared. If you didn't study at all
or didn't study well enough, this can add to your feeling of anxiety.

3. Being afraid of failure. If you connect your sense of self-worth to your exam scores,
The pressure you put on yourself can cause severe test anxiety.
So now that you know the causes of exam anxiety,
How do you overcome this as you prepare November exams.

1. Make sure you're prepared. That means studying for the exam early
Until you feel comfortable with the material.
Don't wait until the night before. Being prepared will boost your confidence,
Which will lessen your exam anxiety, solving enough past questions too helps a lot.

2. Remove all negative thoughts. If you start to feel anxious or have negative thoughts,
Such as "I'm not good enough,"
"I didn't study hard enough,"
"I'm not sure I'm ready"
Push those thoughts away and replace them with positive thoughts.
"I can do this," "I know the material," and "I studied hard,"
can go far in helping to manage your stress level when preparing for your exams.

3. Get enough sleep. A good night's sleep will help your concentration and memory.

4. Avoid the perfectionist trap (I too Know). Don't expect to be perfect.
We all make mistakes and that's okay.
Knowing you've done your best and worked hard is really all that matters, not perfection.
Remember, you don't even need 100% to pass the ICAN exam.
