Wants leaders to do less of talking and show more action in tackling challenges President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Monday, said Nigeria is at a crossroad and more than ever now requires the unity of the people. He stated this in his remarks at the 60th birthday celebration of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, just as he asked leaders at all levels to do less of talking and show more action in tackling the challenges facing the country. “Nigeria is at a crossroad and more than ever now requires the unity of the people. The issues bedevilling Nigeria today require that all leaders, at all levels and in all parts of Nigeria, need to come together,” he stated. Lawan said for Nigeria to surmount its challenges, all leaders must as a matter of urgency come together to ensure that the security and welfare needs of the people are adequately met.
“As leaders, we owe the people, not only the explanation but actions,” Lawan said, adding, “Those of us in leadership positions, we know what we need to do. We need to have courage and commitment and sustain them”. According to him, the nation is at a point where the provision of infrastructure alone by the government cannot sufficiently address the underlying cause of growing insecurity and illiteracy in the country. “What we need is not only infrastructure, but we need the capacity building of the people. In this part of the country, this report has been consistent and apparently, little has been done to reverse it,” he stated. The Senate President, therefore, called on the Federal Government to immediately introduce policies that would return the over 13 million out-of-school children back to school to curb the rising number of illiteracy in the country. He said the reported 13 million out-of-school children mostly in the north was dangerous for the country, adding that until the trend was reversed, no amount of infrastructure can prevent the social angle that would lead to serious insecurity.

Lawan urged leaders to live up to the responsibilities of their respective offices by demonstrating courage and acting expeditiously to guarantee the protection of lives and properties of citizens. He said: “Today, we are challenged by insecurity, sadly it is all over the country. “This requires that all of us at every level of government come together and work to ensure that lives and properties of citizens are protected. “The story is bad. Every day, it is either kidnapping, assassination or some kind of banditry that leaves our people and communities shattered and destroyed,” he lamented.

These guys are bereft of ideas to tackle the unending insecurities in this country and they’re not admitting it. A government that fails in its primary responsibility of securing the lives and properties of it’s citizen is a failure. The NSA’s recent outburst is a testament to the fact that the Buhari’s government is insensitive to the plight of Nigerian on insecurity.

Restructure or die,... you must choose one.

You MOST localize accountability, transparency, security, resource control & etc. This idea that politicians on state/regional level will manipulate or intimidate their opponents with these new Powers is true but minimally compared with doing nothing differently or remaining with the status quo. On 13 million children out of school in Northern states, solutions lie on regional approach just like regional adaption of Sharia for a regional harmonize outcomes.

If you conduct a scientific research on Nigerian corruption (which is way over due), the solutions will still point to a localize/regional or even bottom up approach.

The problem that takes decades to mature is what you want to solve overnight, that's impossible. Nigerian politicians were busy stealing funds meant for development of the country and dumping them in overseas banks. Now the problems they created out of corruption and mismanagement are now challenging everyone in the country. When the government failed to provide quality education and other basic amenities for her citizens this situation will be the end result.Had it been that the past heads of government and politicians did not embezzled public funds and used them to develop the country all these insecurities will not crop up.
Solution is to stop stealing public funds and start building schools so that people will get good education. When people are educated chances of crime are minimal, build steady power supply so that more industries will be established for people to get a job and get busy. As they say "an idle mind is devil's workshop". Start buldind more roads, and projects so that a lot of people will be busy with something and think less on crime. As people use to say " if don't see what to do you do what you see".
As the government is providing these things it will also take decades to be fruitful. One million naira you stole can affect hundreds of people negatively within some years and also one million you invest can impact hundreds of people positively within some years. Nigerian politicians STOP stealing and start developing your country.

I think we should forget about ability of our military to defeat BH.It is high time for PMB to seek for international support to rescue this country,if care is not taken the matter of insecurity might spread across the country coz it is getting worrisome on daily basis. We only av BH b4,now we av bandit, kidnappers stop buses on the road to kidnap people and collect ransom, the country is in the verge of destruction.

Nigeria is for us all,Let step aside tribalism, religious differences and stop being partisan and put all hand on desk to solve this insecurity. It is embarrassing and worrisome on daily basis.
