As part of efforts to deliver on its promise to provide qualitative healthcare to residents of the state, the State government has handed over a 100 hectare of land to Medicus International for the establishment of Sunshine Medical City.

Showing the Medicus team round the parcel of land located along the Akure-Owo expressway, the Special Adviser to the governor on health, Dr Jibayo Adeyeye in Akure hinted that the Sunshine Medical City will be a medical tourism arena where all ailments could be treated.

Dr Adeyeye explained that the medical city is intended to provide medicare for complex cases while noting that Medicus International will be investing $1.1b on the Sunshine Medical City with the equivalent of 400 billion Naira.

He, however, added that over 10 thousand job opportunities will be provided for residents of the state, as the project will also open up the state socio-economically.

The Team Leader, Medicus International, Chief Oludare Bello described the provision of the land as a fulfilment of the promise that was made by the state government November last year when the project was conceived and the memorandum of understanding signed.

He thanked the government for the confidence and trust reposed in Medicus International, which in his words has elicited the political will the project is enjoying.

Bello explained that the state is the major shareholder in the Sunshine Medical City project which when completed will be the best Medical Center in the country.

However, he appealed to the government to provide other titles and the Certificate of Occupancy which in his words, will give investors the confidence to invest their funds.

After the inspection, the certificate of the land was handed over to Medicus International by Dr Jibayo Adeyeye.

The State government team and that of Medicus International met to iron out issues that will expedite the take-off of the Sunshine City.

In a related development, the Team Leader of Medicus International, Chief Bello has described the Medical City project as one which has come to stay in the state

He noted that a lot of underground work had been done since the MOU was signed, such as; the physical planning, sourcing for financiers and other spadework to enable Medicus move to sight in no distant time.

He spoke during a meeting with the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Akure last week.

Chief Bello explained that the project will house an 800 bedded Worldclass hospital, 250 housing units, Five and Three Star Hotels, Recuperation Center and other social amenities added that part of the socio-economic benefit is that Nigerians that will be part of the medical team will have the opportunity of being trained in Germany.

In his response, the governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde appreciated civil servants in the government team and Medicus International for the fruitful deliberation while assuring that government will do the needful to ensure the project becomes a reality as soon as possible.
