Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by Beaf: 8:44pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
Atiku may be charged for treason * Nobody can threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria – President Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)-- President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that government will not take lightly statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. He spoke on Thursday during the decoration of newly promoted Naval officers at the Nigerian Army Headquarters Officers Mess in Asokoro, Abuja. The presidency is not taking lightly the recent statement of violent change credited to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The presidency, sees the report attributed to the former Vice President that he would ensure a violent change in 2011 if President Goodluck Jonathan decided to contest the presidential election as treasonable. The presidency further viewed the comments as attempt by Atiku to commit treason for daring to attack the person of the President during a political talk shop in Abuja on Wednesday. Security sources said on Thursday the former Vice President may be charged for treason. According to a highly placed presidential source, the presidency noted that it was unfortunate that the former Vice President who should aware of how political power is managed could decide to attack a serving commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed forces. "You are aware that today the media was awash with the tempestuous tirade of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against those he described as members of the executive arm of government. He issued a dire warning: "those that make peaceful change impossible, make violent change inevitable.” The source queried that "isn't it preposterous in the extreme for an Atiku to mount Franz Fanon's revolutionary rostrum, and talk about change?" Saying that "this glove just doesn't fit. "Having said that, it is necessary to remind the former Vice President that his remarks are treasonable, since they were overtly directed at the president, commander-in-chief, who is the head of the executive arm", the source further remarked. The source further said "as a former senior member of the executive, he certainly knows that the security agencies have taken copious note of his call for "violent change". The government remains vigilant, for these are desperate times" The source who does not want his name mentioned also noted that "it was obvious that Atiku would not take that misguided utterance if he was the sitting president. I think Atiku is going too far in his renewed political desperation. "Atiku's high sounding rhetoric would have been more meaningful if he was himself not leading member of ancient regime that the mass of the Nigerian people are determined to oust once and for all. "Atiku's dire missive should have come with a self addressed envelope. He and his likes are those who are determinedly resisting change, that essential breath of fresh air that President Jonathan represents to Nigerians." Speaking further on a similar tone at the decoration of the newly promoted Naval officers, President Jonathan declared that government will not condone the culture of careless and inciting utterances especially by politicians, stating that “we will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride. “I frown at people, especially politicians who make statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. Government will not take this lightly. We will no longer allow that kind of culture. We will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride.” The president said Nigeria’s high rating in the international community should not be sabotaged at this time, when the nation is consolidating its leadership role in the African continent and the globe, pointing out that it is the military and the police that bear the brunt in a crisis. “I have been receiving calls from presidents all over the world because they believe that Nigeria can salvage the situation in Cote D’ivoire. That tells you how other countries rate Nigeria.” The president also commended the professionalism and discipline of the Nigerian army, which he said earned Nigeria an enviable standing in the international community. He therefore urged the military to maintain its good standing in the African continent and globally. He congratulated the newly promoted officers and called for more women participation in the nation’s armed forces saying, “I look forward to seeing more Nigerian women flying our fighter jets in the near future.” Story by Victor Iluyemi (info@worldstagegroup.com) http://www.worldstagegroup.com/worldstage/index.php?&id=1452&active=news |

We will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride.” We de your back. Its time to jail a few of the woebegone fckers. ![]() It is incredible the way some adult politicians can wave their delusory sectional supremacy like a flag to spite the constitution. Damn them. |

Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by marcdunu: 9:22pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
They will not do jack GEJ should respect his party's constitution. You can not forment trouble and turn around to charge those who reacted to the trouble you formented for treason. This is pure Dictatorship and Tyranny of the highest order. There is nothing GEJ will do, let him respect his party constitution. We will see how a man who embraces terrorists posing as militants who murdered Nigerian soldiers in battle will now have the guts to charge a former vice President and elder statesman for treason. "Those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable". That is the plain fact. |
Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by Beaf: 9:26pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
marcdunu: Maybe you think GEJ is President of PDP. Rubbish. I hate such unintelligent reasoning. |
Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by sochan: 9:29pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
So a parties constitution is to pick its flag bearer based on zoning even when they are totaly unsuitable. That is total undemocratic, and must be chlleneged in a court of law. Absolute rubbish, Atiku should not threaten anyone, he is a phucking idiot for doing that, and yes Nigeria has moved on from that junk-yard dog mentality |
Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by Abagworo(m): 9:32pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
What Atiku said is simply the truth but the irony of it all is that he is part of those making peaceful change impossible. F. . . . PDP |
Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by marcdunu: 9:33pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
Beaf: He is the party leader. If he can not respect the rules under which he became party leader, let him quit PDP. That is the sensible thing to do. This will not prevent him from continuing as the President of Nigeria. It just simply means PDP can not sponsor him at the next election. That is the fair and moral thing to do. The moral burden will be on Jonathan if Nigeria goes in flames after elections. He simply refused to respect the rules he rode to power, that is the source of the crisis. |

Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by 1025: 9:41pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
if the likes of chris uba who chased a sitting gov out his state and adedibu who made life unbearable in oyo state were not charged for treason, why will atiku be charged for same in expressing his view on the fraudulent manner with which obasanjo and GEJ and running the affairs of nigeria like their private companies. all these are designed to distract atiku as was the case in 2007 when obasanjo and ribadu indicted atiku only to over-look the matter on confirming the yar adua has been made president. without atiku saying it, nigerians are aware that obasanjo and co will not remain above law in nigeria. war! war!! war!!! is likely going to be the end point to all these shits. So a parties constitution is to pick its flag bearer based on zoning even when they are totaly unsuitable. That is total undemocratic, and must be chlleneged in a court of law. @sochan, in 1999, obasanjo vs olu falae - yorubas as a way of settling the yorubas over abiola. another 4 yrs for obasanjo in 2003. obasanjo selected yar adua above everyother candidates in nigeria. if yar adua is dead, why not let the northerners do another 4 yrs to complete their 8 yrs and then give way for another group and possibly the igbos. why has obasanjo decided to bring in this confussion at this time when the igbos are much more on the wait? if we start doing without zoning, we will be the first to complain that the hausas are cheating us. obasanjo is more of a devil and will never like an organised system where everyboy is an active participant. |

Charge Atiku for treason? The people who said that must be morons. Atiku made a factual comment - if peaceful revolution is stymied, the only option is violence. This simply means that no one should attempt to subvert the will of the people. If GEJ feels threatened by this, he must be suffering from guilty conscience. ![]() If GEJ has the cojones, let him charge Atiku, but we all know he can't. |

Some people think the North doesn't have a monopoly on violence, but every time I look at the news, I only see Northerners rioting and maiming people. Igbos sometimes rise up in Aba and Onitsha, but that doesn't happen every day. The OPC sometimes start trouble, but it is Northerners who are quick to violence. |
Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by marcdunu: 9:51pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
chyz: Okwesilieze Nwodo is PDP Chairman. The Party Leader is the Party Flagbearer who could be the President or Prime Minister if the Party gets into power or win elections. So Jonathan is the National PDP Party Leader at the moment, because he is the President on that Party. Just like Soludo is still the PDP Leader in Anambra eventhough he did not win elections. This is why I say you have a lot to learn in politics. You should do more listening when Political animals and Natural spin doctors speak!!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_leader |

Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by chyz(m): 10:02pm On Dec 16, 2010 |
marcdunu: "In politics, the party leader is the most powerful official within a political party. The party leader is typically responsible for managing the party's relationship with the general public. As such, he or she will take a leading role in developing and communicating party policy, especially election platforms, to the electorate. He or she is also typically the public face of the party and the principal media contact." This is clearly Nwodo. Also, Nwodo "within" the political party is the most powerful official. GEJ is the most powerful official in the country so he can definitely maneuver things;however, his power, by definition, is separate from the power of the leader of the PDP, which is Nwodo. Now, since nigeria isn't orderly then the otherwise is bound to make some people doubt that. |
