Obasanjo is a very very brilliant man. An outstanding leader, A top general and a fairly decent democrat. A statesmans who love this country dearly bt most importantly he doesn’t reinforce Failure. |

AkpaMgbor: On Sharia there was nothing Obasanjo could do. Sharia is in the constitution. (How it got there is a long story that dates back to the late 1970's and the arguments over it at the Constituent Assembly that was drawing up the 1979 constitution, and also dates back to the 1950's when the Northern region put in place a sort of muted version of sharia...)..so the only way it could be 'removed' is by an ammendment. (which is a long drawn out process.). Anyway, the law on Sharia is a compromise. IT left the matter to the states...in essence guaranteeing states like Sokoto and Kano that are over 90% Muslim got it, while states like Kogi and Kwara (where both governors, who were muslim at the time, both openly said they won't implement Sharia)..didn't. It was a compromise of sorts.(It also prevented Sharia from being implemented nationally..ie every state must have a Sharia court) Also, what happened in Zamfara and other states was that Sharia was extended to criminal law (prior to 1999, Sharia only was for personal law..eg family issues , divorce, etc) |

@kerzhim, na.That's not true. It's incumbent on Buhari to winkle out this most repulsive terrorist organisation, which has killed over 30,000 people and displaced millions. Besides, it has become a quasi state that now interlocks and takes over prostrate communities as we've seen in the metamorphosis of Boko Haram into ISWAP. |

seankafor: On Bakassi In 1994, when Nigeria and Cameroon went to the ICJ over Bakassi, we signed an agreement then agreeing to abide by the ruling. In 2002, the ICJ awarded Bakassi to Cameroon. That's why Obasanjo handed over Bakassi. (Why we lost the case is another long story) |

FFK should go and eat shit. Was it not under same Obasanjo that Northern Governors violated the Nigerian Constitution by implementing Sharia in their states which led to the commencement of Boko Haram In Borno state. Some times these failed Nigerian politicians want to rewrite history... |

Na so. Here they come again. After hyping the present Head of State as an ex-military super hero swooping down to conquer and deliver. Today it is the Service Chiefs that are the lightning rods of government's aecurity inadequacies. Nigeria loves her feudalism. Few aee interested in the institutions thatdeliiver political hype and propaganda. Few even have an idea of how a government should operate in a democratic dispensation to deliver dividends. Its always name dropping, title hailing without a single empirical evidence of potential performance. Poor quality citizenship can never and should never expect good quality leadership. The truth is that in a functional democracy the military should be able to handle security matters even if there is no President or Head of State in office for any period of time. The military is an Institution. What democratic leadership should bring is no more than policy framework to sustain and grow institutions, period. The competence of any institution on any one operational matter is not a function of changing political leadership. Donald Trump on his own cannot make the military more or less competent than it is. He can decide to go to war or not. He can decide to make cuts or increase military budgets if he likes. All these have to do with projecting power and the politics of using the military. But he cannot make the military more or less professional and capable because it is an institution that has its tradition and doctrines. That is what makes an institution an institution. We must understand thisas Nigerians and begin to demand from leadership the right way of doing things. FFK is just playing to the gallery as usual. 1 Like 1 Share |

obj still fear God more than many of our past leaders. I think he could have managed this security issue more better, if he is still in power. |
