Following the series of criticisms that has trailed the blunt reactions of the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in recent time on many social-political issues, the professor has taken his time to reply his critics and explain the reasons for his actions.

It should be recalled that the Professor of Islamic studies was criticized vehemently for his criticism of Amotekun, an initiative launched by southwest governors to combat the high spate of crime and banditry in the region.

He was also portrayed as a betray of the Yoruba race and an insider agent siding and advancing the cause of the Fulani race, whom are fingered as a dangerous group of people that have been on a killing rampage of recent.

Similar to this, some people equally see the human right group’s director as a religious supremacist beating the drum of religious conflict in the southwest region, and in Nigeria by extension.

In response to all these allegations, the human right Professor has debunked them and others.

He explained that he is a Muslim who adheres to the tenet of Islam that put religious interests above racial or ethnic interest.

“The loyalty of a Muslim is, first and foremost, to Allah, his Creator, not to any group or tribe. A Muslim does not fight blindly for his tribe” he said.

He further explained that enthroning this principle does not mean betrayal of his race, and everyone must not allow their sympathy to prevent them in dealing justly with people from other tribes.

“But that does not mean that he has worked against his tribe. It is natural for every human being to have sympathy for his people but he must suppress the emotion to swing in favour of his tribe. That sentiment must never at any time override the need to be fair to all other tribes and to the rest of humanity”, he explained.
