Jeff Koinange Sacked From CNN Over His Story On The Niger-delta Based Mend Group by enolase(m): 1:07pm On Jun 03, 2007
Hello,

At last, the enemies of our great country have been put to shame.

Recall Jeff Koinange, the CNN African correspondent that ran a story on the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta that was shown on CNN, prompting a response from Frank Nweke, the Information minister?

Well, it has been found that his story was filled with concocted and stage-managed images that painted Nigeria as the most unsafe place on planet earth.

Frank Nweke's theories (which were denied by Jim Clancy and other CNN reporters immediately after Nweke's response on "Your World Today"wink have been proven to be right, and Jeff Koinange has been relieved of his job.

I say CNN deserve to apologize to Nigeria on their news programs in front of the world.

Nigeria's image problem has largely been worsened by negative (and mostly untrue) reports about Nigeria from Western media.

Has there been any case of a university student waking up to shoot 33 of his fellow students before killing himself in any Nigerian university? Is Lagos or even the Niger Delta (where I have lived for more than 20 years) more unsafe than New York?

It is time we rise up as Nigerians and counter the negative reports that the Western media is showing to the world.

Please Oga - where did you read that story from?

But I found out it is true - read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Koinange

Another story.

Wednesday May 30th 2007, Filed under: News Reporters, Scandal, Screwed , Posted by Jagger

The “Date-Rape Journalist” has been fired from CNN. Jeff Koinange, a journalist born in Kenya and covering events in the same nation, has been accused by a women he met online as date-raping her after a long intimate relationship. The women is a writer who contacted Koinage about a book she penned. Jeff went to interview the girl and relationship quickly turned intimate. The women has posted every conversation she had with MARRIED Koinage online. Here’s a small bit:

KOINAGE:

… sorry, my LOVE …. it’s been a HECTIC day … but I don’t want to ruin the moment as I want you to watch the SHOW today ….
But simply put, we flew to the headquarters of the supporter of APC Arab Militia and didn’t even get past the airport …, we were turned back despite the fact that we had all the necessary paperwork …. the reason, you’ll just have to watch the SHOW …,
Otherwise, I am fine and back in El Fasher and will be LIVE around 5.27 am (my time) and again just before the SHOW ends in the following hour …,
I miss you and LOVE you much and hope you had a GREAT day ….
JK
P.S. I’m imagining you ‘SHAVED’ and thinking some VEY DIRTY thoughts …… I hope, it’s CLEANLY shaved (what they call a ‘Brazilian wax’). That way, it’s SMOOTH and makes LICKING ’sweeter’ and the sensation even more ENYOYABLE !!!!!!!!!

WOMEN:

Jeff had asked me if ‘I was shaved’ at a certain part of my body ………. I was shocked since I never in my life ever thought about this nor did I even know that this question could ever arise ………, he explained (on the phone) that he enjoyed ‘to make love’ with his tongue and that being shaved gives him more pleasure ……………… and gave me the advise to do it ‘brasilian style’ asking me to take information about this with ‘Beauty Experts’

AND LATER:

But when he called as announced and told me that he ‘was ready’ and then with a very soft and tender voice started to tell me
“………, just listen to me and do as I tell you ……… take the phone in your left hand …… close your eyes …, and now with your right hand ………”
I stopped him … telling him that this was not possible for me ……. I am sorry, but I can’t do this ………
and put down the receiver ………
He called back and asked if I was o.k. - and I should not worry about him ……. I told him that I could not talk about this on the phone, but I would write and explain.
So I wrote to him in the morning:
… it was my mistake since I never liked to touch myself whem I am alone. I only love it together with a man - but him touching me and me touching him. Only then it is fulfillment for me - so I should have known before starting last night what the result was.

The women also says Jeff had herpes and didn’t tell her! What a dick! CNN won’t comment on the date-rape. Stay tuned….

What exactly is the problem here?  Is it that it was an embarassment to the Nigerian government or the fact that the story was stage managed?  I watched the CNN gig myself.  Stage managed or not, it reflected on the situation in the Niger Delta to its true form.  Do we not have militants in Niger Delta that look like those on CNN Were there not actual Phillipino hostages?  If it was stage managed to reflect the real thing then it is a legit documentary series---just as you will see in National Geographic.

What does CNN have to apologise for? Is Nigeria not one of the most unsafe places in the world----due to lawlessness and sheer indiscipline?  At least we know that other places like Iraq and Afghanistan have some kind of conflict or the other going on so are unsafe.  Other Places like Mexico and Columbia have serious drug trafficking problems. The whole story has not come out.  If you dig deeper you will see Brother Jeff K and some Nigerians had some money change hands and all this is just a  cover up to reveal the real thing.  Nigeria Kwenu!  Ya!

As for the soft porn messages above grin I guess we all have our "kinky habits"!  We just happen to now know some of Jeff's----If the story na true oh!!!  God knows that if some of us were to be caught on phone or camera, O lordie, lordie!  Jeff's revelations will be child's play.  Just playing the devil's advocate on a Sunday as usual! cheesy

Funny enough when some of us sided with the Information Minister that the story was contrived many narrow minded beings on this forum called us names (as usual anyway) because the Western media can do no wrong. Today we know better.

Even if Jeff was never fired quite a number of discerning minds know that you can only pay your way to get the type of hollywood movie Jeff produced for the world to see.

I believe he will do well if he takes to movie production anyway.

This line of reasoning by Afam is very mischivious. What the hell does it matter if Jeff stage managed the news item? We still do have millitants in Niger Delta. This line of argument would ave made sence if there was no millitancy in the niger delta region. To celebrate the sacking of Jeff is misguided and downright stupid. I just dont know why people does not have a sence of proportion anymore.

Use spell checker before posting your thoughts on a forum.

Well, if the line of reasoning you are condemning ends up being the fact and the truth then I will rather continue in that line than reason like an idiot who will look stupid when all the conspiracy theories crumble.

Facts and truth are always constant, cry if you want, commit suicide if it makes you cool but there is nothing anyone can do as regards facts and truth.

Keep fooling yourself with your warped sense of reasoning.

CNN sucks.

i saw the first 3 min of the report and i can't believe they still used the line "now, let's go into the heart of darkness" to refer to going to nigeria (Africa). and i thought this was something they did only until the 1960s.
the whole video looked exactly like one of those reports they made of Africa then with the "savages" dancing around etc in the nytimes newspaper. It's a shame that they'll make something like that up then, and it's even more shameful that they'll be doing the same in 2007.

racism still exists. i don't know why some people deny it.

i'm mad at the biased pic they selected for Nweke. they tried to make him look like he was up to some mischief.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/02/12/nigeria.reaction/index.html

i wonder what article (if any) they'll write now that Nweke has been proven right.

Unfortunately, we even have Nigerians that have sold their souls to the US to the extent that anything the US does must be defended at all cost whether right or wrong.
Re: Jeff Koinange Sacked From CNN Over His Story On The Niger-delta Based Mend Group by MILITIA(f): 4:55pm On Jun 04, 2007
Sell our souls to U.S.A.  ke?  No need for that! That is what we are best at---selling ourselves and you do not need Jeff K. or CNN for that.  You may feel "vindicated" or "syndicated" now but not for long.  You find it hard to accept that the report on CNN reflected what is going on  in the  Niger Delta region of Nigeria.  "Heart of Darkness"----- Is Africa not a "Dark Continent" where light has refused to shine?  Please  be less emotional in your responses and look at the real problems in Africa.  It is okay to feel ashamed for how the world sees us--- that is why we have to improve on our images.

Your denial of the simple realities will not help us much.  Your celebrated victory will be short lived and baseless.  OBJ was the one that sold you out.  He probably gave the You.S. some good discounts in the Oil trade to kill that story so Nigeria's vile image would have some relief.  But for how long  Why don't they kill all the 419 stories about Nigerians too around the world via 60 minutes, Dateline NBC or Ophrah Winfrey show?  I love my country Nigeria, but the last thing I will do is to hide her shame---that is not being unpatriotic!  We are truly unrepentant criminals! THE ENEMIES OF OUR GREAT COUNTRY ARE NIGERIANS OURSELVES!!!!

Paying to stage manage a story is one thing, stating the obvious is yet another.

I have lived and worked in places like Bonny, PH, Eket and Warri so I am aware of the happenings in the Niger Delta.

Any foundation that is based on lies will ultimately crumble just as this one did.

Is the hostage taking as a result of the neglect in the ND or is it a new business venture by some people that are armed?

How many of the millions paid for releasing hostages have been used to build roads, schools or even buy food for the poor?

Have you not heard that someone from Imo/Abia was arrested and he confessed to being part of a gang? Now, is that young man fighting for the development of the ND or is he running a "business"?

Man, I don't need the media or corrupt politicians to think for me.

And I agree with you completely that we are our own worst enemy because we like making patromizing statements that will bring us accolades as against stating things the way they really are for fear of being called names.
Re: Jeff Koinange Sacked From CNN Over His Story On The Niger-delta Based Mend Group by Adurangba(f): 6:22pm On Jun 04, 2007
the guy may have been sacked because of his randiness - not necessarily because of the Nija story.
Re: Jeff Koinange Sacked From CNN Over His Story On The Niger-delta Based Mend Group by MILITIA(f): 6:29pm On Jun 04, 2007
Afam, the Nigerian government has shown us worse pictures/stories of the Niger Delta situations than those portrayed by CNN in Nigerian newspapers and Nigerian T.V., so what is there to stage manage? Do you dash out accolades? I think they have to be earned - don't you?

Adura-ngba, Sacked for his randiness?  LOL!  Please randiness in America is not a big deal.  It is a hobby over here, just like drugs.  Please say something else! grin

yes there are real problems in Africa. there are real problems all over the world.
the niger delta crisis is also caused by the foreign oil companies who take the oil and refuse to do nothing about the pollution they create.
no matter what Africa does to improve it's image there will always be the foreigners who'll only cover the negative.
if they don't find the negative, they'll create it.

ask yourself, when has the west covered any story on Africa that doesn't have a theme of violence, sickness or something of the negative?
to me, Africa is NOT a "dark continent." light shines in Africa just as it shines all over the world (unless you look at Africa from a western perspective, then you'll probably find no light 'cause you'll only be looking for the darkness)

It is okay to feel ashamed for how the world sees us--- that is why we have to improve on our images.

we've been ashamed for how the world sees us for centuries. we blacks have always been ashamed for how the world sees us. how has this improved our image?
it doesn't improve our image. the shame turns to self-hate and pessimism.

Just in case you didn't get the "heart of darkness" part, It's an allusion to Conrad's book from the 1800s that portray Africans as savage primates without a past, and the land as a waste.
Chinua Achebe has written works criticizing the racist contents in it.

MMh, what I read from the wiki referenced post that his ouster was based more on a relationship indiscretion than the Nigerian MEND story.

why're some people rejoycing for the ouster of Jeff for his stupid sexual indiscretion.

How was his indiscretion related to his objective report on naija?

I tell you, CNN probably gave him a raise for his naija story.
Overall, let's focus on veracity of his report about our nation and not on his sexual escaped gone wrong.

Thank you oh!  Like Nigerian T.V. has not shown worse images of Nigeria as a whole not to talk of Niger Delta and other parts of the country.  Dead bodies are all over the roads in Nigeria and you are crying about Jeff K's sex stories!. What baffles me is that some are still trying to whitewash the issue.  Do we have militants in Nigeria?

Sharia jihadists that nearly set Abuja on fire with the 2nd last defunct Miss Universe nko?  No be militants them be?  Why una no go catch those ones?  Because it got to the outside world, shame dey catch us!  I say una never start to shame yet!  More to come!  As for the fascination with the sexscapade stories?  Wetin else dey for Naija person brain?  Please if you want to really hear freaky stuff, move over to the romance and sexuality area of this page!

Yup! Anything new to add? --------Accusations by the Nigerian govt was so strong---blah blah-blah-blah-blah! ---------------CNN denied! Okay--nothing new there! When did bribery become a crime in Nigeria? Uncle Jeff was only doing what works in Nigeria, so that does not negate the reality that we have militants in Nigeria. He had to poblish his story according to the dictates of Nigerian standards---BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION!

Furthermore, hostages taken in Nigeria are released with serious monetary bribes and ransoms--negotiated by the Nigerian government itself, so what is the problem here. So? What is the point? As for the sexcapades, like I said--who cares? We all gat ours! Please address the real issues jo! Which is Nigeria is sitting on a ticking time bomb planted by Nigerians ourselves! The detonation device is in all of our hands. You do not need CNN or Jeff Koinange for that!

@my2cents, I beg publish something else! THIS IS STALE NEWS!

I pray for the repose of the souls of guys who have lost their lives in the ongoing Niger Delta Agitations.

When would we, as Africans, be able to tell and accept that truth. I am not happy with the sack of Jeff because CNN has lost a damn good reporter. Let me ask one question - HOW MANY OF US CAN ACCEPT TO VISIT THE SWAMPS OF THE NIGER DELTA IN ORDER TO DO A STAGE MANAGED STORY?  It is often said in my culture that it is the man we catch stealing that we call a thief. We all have our vices and that Jeff was caught red handed doing his hanky panky does not make his Nigeria story wrong or contrived. Mr Clinton, Wolferson and so many other great men had some small foxes in their vines. I think we should not rejoice over his downfall.

I watched the story and even recorded it - tell me what part of the entire piece can we call stage managed, these guys were not carrying Dane guns or bows and arrows; the hostages were real, the hooded guys were not robots or clones. You don't need to go far into the creeks to notice  the almost non existence of infrastructure in the Niger Delta!!!!!
I travelled along Benin - Ore on Friday and spent close to 1 hr (standstill) at a bad spot just before Ore.

I find it quite upsetting when people say his story was contrived, why? My cousin who works at a flow station of and oil company besieged by the millitants last year had bullet wounds and as we speak is still undergoing therapy. From his account 15 soldiers were killed and some of them roasted alive I saw some of the pictures and they are really too gory to post on this website. I saw heavy metal twisted like rubberband. Those militants are better equipped than the Nigerian army. I just wish people would leave their locations and come over to the Niger delta to see what we are passing thru before they make comments.

As far as I am concerned Jeff has not done wrong, he has only done his job by telling the truth as it is and I do hope and pray that God grant him the grace of repentance and the grace to overcome his shame and downfall.
