got back to winning ways after earning three
points in their last three games. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane canceled out
Callum Wilson's early goal to put the Premier
League leaders three games away from winning
the title. The game was full of fireworks in the opening
exchanges as the Cherries got off to a bright start in
the ninth minute.
A well-worked move from Philip Billing who found
Ryan Fraser down the right as the Scottsman's ball
into the box gave an easy tap-in for Wilson to make
it 1-0.
Liverpool were fired-up knowing full well they
were on the backdrop of three losses in four
matches in the past few weeks. And their persistence paid off when early substitute
Jack Simpson made a defensive blunder as Mane
set up a pass for Salah to equalize to make it 1-1 in
the 25th minute. The crowd at Anfield rose to their feet to celebrate
the Reds second as another error from Simpson
saw Virgil van Dijk provide a through ball to Mane
who picked his spot to make it 2-1 in the 33rd
minute. The first half ended with the Merseysiders taking a
one-goal advantage into the break after an early
scare. The second 45 minutes did not produce a goal but
there was a decent fight-back from Eddie Howie's
men. James Milner made an off-the-line clearance from
Fraser's attempt on goal while at the other end,
Mane's shot hit the cross-bar.
Roberto Firmino also squandered a glorious
opportunity after Salah did well to connect the
Brazilian with a pass. The match ended 2-1 as Liverpool established a 25-
point lead with Bournemouth continue to slip
down the relegation zone.
