The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bayelsa State Chapter has sensitized students of Community Girls Secondary School Emeyal II on their rights as a girl child.
The Chairman of NAWOJ, Mrs Maria Olodi-Osumah gave the sensitization talk in commemoration of the International Women’s Day with the Theme “I am Generation Equality, Realizing Women’s Right” on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the school premises in Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
Mrs. Olodi-Osumah who spoke at length on the importance of girl child education encouraged the students to always be steadfast in their schooling and strive to be the best in whatever they choose as a career in the future because not all girls have the opportunity to acquire education due to one restrain or the other.
The Chairman enlightened the students on their Child Right Act to be sheltered, clothed and fed, right to life, freedom of speech i.e they should be heard not just seen and the society has the responsibility of protecting these rights.
Speaking, the Vice Chairman of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs. Grace Orumieyefah gave a talk on sex education, advised the students not to engage in sexual activities either willingly or pressured because they are considered as minors and could be at risk of contacting sexually transmitted diseases such as Gonorrhea, HIV, Syphilis and others.
She further advised them against abortion in case of pregnancy because they may loose their womb that instead, they should speak out when being molested.

Responding on behalf of the school and students, the Vice Principal, Mr. Johnson Ngozi said this was one of the best he had seen and called on other organizations to emulate NAWOJ to make the future brighter for the students.
