The Director-General, Media and Communications, Kano State Government, Salihu Yakasai, has said the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, won’t have access to visitors.

He said this while making clarification on the removal of Sanusi on Monday.

The Kano State Executive Council had on Monday approved the immediate removal of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, announced the unanimous decision of the council at a news conference on Monday in Kano.

He said the removal of the monarch followed alleged disrespect to lawful instructions by the state governor.

After Sanusi’s removal, there were speculations that he could emerge as the presidential or governorship candidate of a political party in the 2023 general election.

But Yakasi via his Twitter handle, @dawisu, said Sanusi would be kept in exile and would not have his freedom as expected.

“Clearly, some people are ignorant of how dethronement works. When an Emir is dethroned, he is sent to exile in a remote location and will basically be under house arrest and won’t have access to visitors. A person under these circumstances will be after his freedom and not the next election,” he tweeted.

You can imagine what sympathy votes will do for him, and how all these stories of dethronement and banishment are no big a deal to endure for the topmost seat of the land especially for a power-hungry man like Sanusi.

I wish Sanusi made friends down south with senior lawyers. This is the time to challenge our laws.

After all these, Ganduje must be arrested and tried for criminal detention of the deposed Emir. Which law says you can banish a deposed Emir? After you banish him, your job is to ensure he doesn't return and not to start concerning yourself where he is banished to. You are now usurping his right to free movement and as an ordinary citizen with no criminal intent or record, our constitution protects him.

Folks, Ganduje is breaking the law and no one is challenging him.

Sanusi, even with all his human flaws is one of the few moderates among the Hausa-Fulani elites. He is pro education, and progressive in thinking. Those in power with sinister motives know that he will likely object to their plans to cause religious turmoil and ethnic cleansing. He is being removed and caged to give way to their plots. And also as a warning to others who dare oppose or demand civility and progressiveness.
