Four insignias that British Colonial Government took from Yoruba and adopted into its instruments of office.

1 - Erin - Elephant
This is a totem of Yoruba royals - Omo Erin! Erinfolami! Erin Jogun Ola!

2 - Arewa - The Northern Star
There is an Odu Ifa that narrates adventure of the three wise men and their navigation to the born infant. They had to travel by night, the North Star was their navigator, the way the Sun is the navigator for seamen in the day. The Northern Star was in the Western Region Seal and later was adopted into the Nigerian coin.

3 - Ida Oranmiyan - The Sacred Sceptre
Yoruba is the only nation in Africa that possesses a sacred sword as an item of divine authority. The sword is used in coronation throughout Yorubaland.

4 - Okun Ide (Amure) - Solomon's Knot
European Explorers looking for the source of River Niger first reported contact with Yoruba towns and Kings and Old Oyo, its walls, gates and Alaafin. In their graphical record of how richly Yorubas dressed, they mentioned the embroidered knot and its popularity amongst elites and government officers in their flowing Agbada. Later when Britain invaded and occupied the land and they started using negative films to record events we see that many of the Obas and their Chiefs had the embroidered knot prominent infront of their Agbadas.
