Coronavirus: Lagos Has Broken The Circle Of Transmission - Health Commissioner by Ravon: 9:02am On Mar 14, 2020 |
Lagos State Government has disclosed that it has been able to break the circle of person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 from the index case in the State. The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who disclosed this at a news briefing to give updates on the #COVID19Lagos said all other identified contacts of the index case, except the positive contact who has now tested negative to the virus and discharged, have exceeded the 14 days quarantine isolation period without symptoms. He said, “The remaining contacts of the index case; those in Ogun and Lagos States remain symptom-free and they have exceeded their 14 days surveillance, which means that we do not expect that any of them will turn positive from direct contact with the index case”. “In simple words, that means in Lagos, we have been able to interrupt the transmission between the index case and anybody in this environment, we have broken the circle of transmission and have not given the virus the opportunity to spread beyond one person. So, the threats posed by the index case to Lagos and Nigeria has been eliminated and we have not gotten an outbreak as a result of the interventions that took place in Lagos”, the Commissioner added. Abayomi explained that the positive contact of the index case tested negative after two consecutive tests conducted on him, noting he has been certified to be virus-free and subsequently discharged. “His tests initially showed that he was positive to Coronavirus twice and now, he has tested negative to the virus on two consecutive tests carried out on him”, he said. However, on the index case, Abayomi stated that the Italian being managed at the Mainland General Hospital, Yaba remains on admission although perfectly well now, he is still secreting the virus, stressing that the patient is getting closer to being discharged as his immune system is gradually wiping out the virus. “He is perfectly well now, we are only keeping him because he still has some secretion of the virus. The test shows that anytime from now, he may be negative. If he is negative, we will conduct another test within 48 hours after and if he is still negative, we will set him free. We are close to discharging the index case, we want to be sure he poses no danger to society anymore”, Abayomi stated. The Commissioner, however, assured members of the public not to panic stating that government will continue to respond swiftly and take necessary actions to contain the spread of the disease, adding that the Lagos will continue to strengthen its surveillance and will be sending more medical personnel to the point of entry at the Airport. https://lagosstate.gov.ng/blog/2020/03/14/covid19-index-case-we-have-broken-the-circle-of-transmission-lagos-health-commissioner/ 55 Likes 6 Shares

Nigeria media has done well to protect the identity of the Italian and the other contacts , something the English media cannot do. Now the whole world knows that Arsenal manager has Convid 19. Shior. Even Premium Times with it's investigative journalism cannot break the impregnable circle. I'm not saying there is no Italian, I just want to plead with them to ensure that adequate measures be put in place to prevent real and verifiable Convid 19 carrier(s) from getting to Nigeria. Imagine Corona in the street of the overcrowded Lagos city, e don be for Nigeria be that. 92 Likes 3 Shares |

USA, Italy, China, Canada, UK, Germany should all swallow their non existing pride and come and beg Nigeria to teach them how to arrest and wipe out diseases. We wiped out Ebola and now Corona. This can't be a coincidence, this s result of proper planning and execution. 189 Likes 23 Shares |

How much can he eat in a month? I will even volunteer to be buying him mama put everyday No sporting activities anywhere in the world for the first Saturday in a long time and you guys think it's child's play? That Italian is going nowhere!!! 97 Likes 8 Shares |

The Coronavirus could be described as a humbling disease since it has so far brought the rich and the highly influencial to their knees. Even Donald Trump is forced to swallow his word and pride. The poor and weak nations are only being spared maybe for now because of the grace of God. For Nigeria, it's not just about being clever alone, grace is also involved. Good thing is that it started from a super power nation before moving to other places; so the world has learned from the experience of others. 47 Likes 5 Shares |

LibertyRep:You are not making a similar comparison. When there is a public safety nterest then confidentiality can be compromised in other to alert contacts and protect the public. In the case of Arsenal that choice was made by Arsenal 12 Likes 1 Share |

As this virus keeps disrupting the daily lives all around the world Still nothing is happening over here And like I always say, nothing will happen And it's not because of hot weather (stop being stupid) Now the nations will envy you, and they will hate you for HIS name sake Because He has chosen you yet again And will save you.. 49 Likes 6 Shares |

LibertyRep: If you want to contact Corona and spread it within your family, go to China or Italy. Corona has been defeated here in Nigeria even before it rears it ugly head. We defeated Ebola, so it's no surprise that we have humiliated and buried Corona. Tell your so called develop nations to get pen and books and come and learn from Nigeria how to wipe of diseases. We are the Giant of the World, after being Giant of Africa for decades, we have arrived to take our place as the Giant of the World. 42 Likes 1 Share |

Great... !!! All our airports are the main location. Especially the point of arrivals. If they can increase the the surveillance and vigilance at the airport, we won't have to be worried in the first place. They should also educate officials at the airport to stop their attitude of begging and focus on their job. Patronize us, we sell genuine lands within estates. 4 Likes |

Wiseandtrue: What do you mean by 'let the people feel or see it'?? Since you so badly want to 'feel and see it', why not catch the next plane to Italy. I don't get why you always have to sound so negative about everything, like you are allergic to positive news or something. Look, everything doesn't have to be painted with political coloration. But I guess you just can't help yourself. 33 Likes
