It is shocking how colonial mentality pervades our society.

A Yoruba legislator in Yoruba land, all some dunces can talk about is his English

How many Chinese legislators speak English?

Please don’t mind our people and their LOW BOTTOM-SCRAPPING standards...
Blathering on about Yoruba language, when the Assembly deliberations (and laws) are in English.

Speaking of bottom-scrapping...
One suspects that in reality his single most important qualification is scrapping ass at Bourdillon.

If you are confused why you were quoted...
Then it’s easy to understand why you are defending Obasa! grin grin grin

The daily deliberations of the Assembly is in ENGLISH...
The laws, rules and regulations governing the Assembly is in ENGLISH.

The reports (and even hearings) of the Assembly are in ENGLISH...
The resolutions, bills and/or laws enacted by the Assembly is in ENGLISH.

Even a single word in a law can make all the difference...
So his Yoruba mastery is IRRELEVANT to the competent functions of his office.

He has done his part, he owes his constituency nothing, at every election cycle they collect what they want upfront,in cash, kind ,and materials, the development of the constituency is usually not part of the bargain, that is why you see the electorates returning them again and again

WOW! He is literally there to REPRESENT the interests of his constituents... shocked

That is why I don't mix with riffraffs.
Legislators are not draftsmen. THAT is a technical job for lawyers who receive specific training to perform that TECHNICAL task

You are here championing English which you scarcely comprehend.

Where did I DEFEND Obasa? FROM what exactly.

I am solidly behind any person who speaks Yoruba fluently to be a legislator in Lagos. Quite how that translates into a defence of Obasa eludes me.

The reality is your grasp of English is atrocious and you should spend your neurotic energies improving that since it is ,to you , a mark of accomplishment and distinction.

Once again legislators are not legal draftsmen and don't have to be.
Their job is to agree on a legislative objectives and direction while the draftsman fleshes it out

There is nothing in the constitution saying laws cannot be enacted in Yoruba.

That is where we are heading

You mean like Obasa?! grin grin grin

Btw, it’s “riff raff”....
Both singular and plural are the same. wink cheesy

Meanwhile, draftsmen do NOT conduct Assembly deliberations...
Neither do they conduct hearings nor pass Assembly resolutions.

Even laws drafted by draftsmen still has to be completely understood/explainable by legislators...
Sadly, that’s why in Nigeria a whole Police IG was stumbling over “transmission” in a written speech! SMH

How did being able to "construct one proper sentence in English" become measure of intelligence

Not a measure of intelligence...
But a measure of capacity to competently do his job.

Frankly, I usually ignore folks like you who resort to personal insults/attacks...
It merely betrays a lack of substance and most often a crude family upbringing.

Believe what the media or his publicity team says at your own peril.
