Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has said that his administration is set to establish an independent power project to boost the supply of electricity in the state.


According to a statement made available to our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Mr. Mojeed Jamiu, the governor said this on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the site of a 132/33kv sub-station in Ado Ekiti.


Fayemi was quoted as saying that his administration was committed to the provision of a conducive investment environment.


He said, “In our state, that’s a major challenge, once we tackle electricity, a lot of other things follow. There will be a multiplier effect in the small-scale industrial sector.


“Even the ordinary barbers’ shops next to you will not have a problem and they would be able to generate more income because there is electricity for them that is predictable and that is acceptable in the state. That is a priority for us. That is why I am here.”


Fayemi, who lamented that only two of the six dedicated feeders were connected from the project that was started in 1984, said that he would ensure optimal utilisation of the sub-station and connect the outstanding four feeders.

It would be better to at least get something on the ground first before announcing to the media that you plan to get something on the ground. Regardless, the initiative displayed here is commendable.
