Coronavirus In Nigeria: Remain A Capable Professional by AbdulAkpan: 1:13am On Mar 18, 2020
The Federal Ministry of Health had on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, announced that a Nigerian lady became symptomatic to coronavirus on her return from the United Kingdom, and is undergoing treatment at Infectious Diseases Hospital, Lagos State.

It follows that as the lady in question was exposed to other passengers on the plane and at the airport while being symptomatic, other passengers and those who were in close proximity to her, have become infected. So, Lingo Africa, being the foremost human capital development platform in Abuja, has outlined several relevant steps everyone, including professionals, can take to protect themselves against the spread of coronavirus.

Stop Waiting – I see a lot of people especially on social media platforms asking the government to act and stop foreigners from affected countries form gaining entrance into Nigeria by closing down borders like Ghana, Chad, and other African countries. However, it will be wise for everyone to rely on themselves at this point and take precautions to stay safe and healthy and urge their loved ones to do the same. Do not wait on the government to close down the borders. What if they don’t? Follow genuine coronavirus updates and stay safe.

Request for Remote Work – If you have a job that does not require you to be at the office to execute your duties, you could ask your boss or supervisor to work remotely, so as to reduce the risk of being exposed to the coronavirus disease. If your request is not granted, do not lose hope. Instead, apply caution when in public. One tip you can use to receive a remote work approval is to show your supervisor some work you have done, outside the office, so, s/he can be convinced of your ability to work without micromanagement.

Follow What Matters – There is so much available coronavirus content online in text and videos. Some of them are fake and inciting. Try as much as possible to get your updates from the official pages of the World Health Organization, the World Economic Forum, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control on social media. Avoid following gossip blogs and tabloids as a lot of them spread fake information as regards the coronavirus.

Think of Others as Well – You have important information about coronavirus because you are educated and enlightened. How about those in your local community, who lack a formal education? If you share important information with them, they will be safe. If they are safe, you are safe too. Try to use a local dialect to let them know the risks and tips to avoid coronavirus. Try to think of this as safeguarding the lives of others as well as your own life.
