The term “Internet of Things” was coined by Kevin Ashton in 1999 during his work at Procter&Gamble. Ashton who was working in supply chain optimization wanted to attract senior management's attention to a new exciting technology called RFID.

Interview with Kevin Ashton–inventor of IoT: Is driven by the users. Kevin Ashton is sometimes called the “Inventor of IoT” since he first used the term in 1999 to describe a system where the Internet is connected to the physical world via ubiquitous sensors.

The Internet, itself a significant component of the IoT, started out as part of DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in 1962 and evolved into ARPANET in 1969. In the 1980s, commercial service providers began supporting public use of ARPANET, allowing it to evolve into our modern Internet.

The toaster is considered being the first IoT device. It is connected to the computer via a TCP/IP protocol. It creates the XCoffee at the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge.

IoT devices are becoming a part of the mainstream electronics culture, and people are adopting smart devices into their homes faster than ever. By 2020, it is estimated that there will be up to 21 billion connected devices to the internet. ... The more data that IoT devices collect, the smarter they will become.

#HOW_IOT_WORKS
An IoT system comprises sensors/devices which “talk” to the cloud through some kind of connectivity. Once the data gets to the cloud, software processes it and then might perform an action, such as sending an alert or automatically adjusting the sensors/devices with no user.

#Here_Are_Some_Advantages_Of_IoT:
*Communication. IoT encourages communication between devices, also famously known as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication.
*Automation and Control.
*Information.
*Monitor.
*Time.
*Money.
*Automation of daily tasks leads to better monitoring of devices.
*Efficient and Saves Time.
