"He who is responsible for another's becoming powerful ruins himself." That's an assertion by Niccolo Machiavelli. When you give somebody power, the same person is very likely going to use the same power to undo you. It is typical of human beings. What has happened to Adams Oshiomole is certainly not unconnected with the rift between him and the man he installed to succeed him the government house of Edo State. My only interest in the matter, all the same, is that I want what has happened to Oshiomole to be one of such events that will diminish the trend of "godfatherism" in Nigerian politics. Meaningful development will happen to our country if we have the right people with the right capacity in government who have no godfathers to defer to. Peter Obi did great works in Anambra as governor because he had no godfathers he deferred to. The same thing applies to David Umahi of Ebonyi State today.
I know that strong-willed and non-subservient people like us will not find it easy in politics. Lol.
The point of this write-up is to express the hope that what has happened to Adams Oshiomole will diminish the trend of godfatherism in Nigerian politics.
