Personally I welcome official opposition in d SW, PDP fits d bill being a national party, all dat remains is for credible candidates to take up candidacy of this party and discuss issue based politics. If d PDP candidate in Lagos say he would tear down those lousy toll gates, he would not only have swayed a large % of Lagos electorates to his party he would actually effect change in d lives of his constituents which is one of d fundermentals of democracy. |

luvinhubby: Good valid points, however on the traffic offence point, I don't agree, Nigerians have been lawless for a long time, harsh penalties for obvious traffic violations are in order. Nigerians just don't like following rules and regulations. PDP is a terrible party, where have they taken us in all their years in power? Still no electricity !!! Interstate roads are still a mess !! ACN hasnt been over fantastic but at least we can point to some positive actions on ground in Lagos. During a recent visit, I was surprised to see some suburb roads under construction and some major roads been patched up "even in this holiday period". If for nothing else, I respect Fashola for the little he has done. If past 4 governors in a state did same, most states would be fairly sane and habitable. Haven said that, he should listen to the complains of people and rectify major issues on the ground. The Lekki road toll issue is not as easy as it looks, the state has entered into a legal agreement with LCC to provide that infrastructure because the state wasn't willing (or able) to fund it, and the road been a major part of the Lekki FTZ had to be done. The mistake is that the old road should have been left alone and LCC construct a fresh new road, then it becomes fully optional to use the new road. As it is now, the road been proposed as alternative is not even known to most people. Hence the state might have no option than to - provide an alternative road even if a 2 lane version, to handle those unwilling to pay toll fees, or - a part of the new road (1 lane) be dedicated to none toll paying customers. (common design in the USA) Fashola, my advice - please spread the road repairs to suburbs and outskirts, because - those locations have a larger population density - they suffer more hardship from bad roads - they would be more grateful for your actions. |

obasy09: While it may not be correct to say that PDP won in Ikorodu due to historical dispositions, Ikorodu was actually part of what is today's Ogun State way back. Ikorodu was ceded to Lagos Colony in 1906 by the Remo people of Ogun State. Before then, it was under the Remo Division of Ijebu Province and was so because Ikorodu was founded by a Sagamu prince called Oga in the mid-19th century. Almost all the indigineous families in Ikorodu have lineages in Sagamu. |

stine b: Spot on! Sometimes I wonder why people forget so easily the kind of person that man is. PDP may not be a good party, but the ACN is surely not better. ACN leader; Tinubu is only a pretender. Even the party itself is comprised of questionable, disgruntled and out-of-favour politicians from the PDP like Tom Ikimi, Ibikunle Amosu etc. The recent congress of the ACN in Lagos ended in a row because some members protested Tinubu's alleged imposition of candidates on the party. Tinubu as a person does not fancy primary elections simply because he never emerged as a candidate through one. In 1999, Funsho Williams defeated him in the AD guber primaries but the Adesanyas of this world foisted him on the party as a compensation for his alleged support for NADECO with proceeds of his illicit drug trades. Again, in 2003, he used the power of incubency to make sure the party disqualified all opposing candidates for him to emerge unopposed as the guber candidate. He later out-rigged Funsho Williams in the general elections. In 2007, he muscled out all opposing candidates to his protege - Fashola and made sure he emerged as the sole candidate of the party in a kangaroo primary. Tinubu has never believed in internal democracy within a party; the same mistake the AD made in 2003 and lost out big time to the PDP (never mind the PDP rigged, because they - the AD/ACN also rigged). The PDP victory in Ikorodu might just be signalling the imminent implosion of the ACN in Lagos because a good number of their members are seriously aggrieved by Tinubu's dictatorship and the lack of fair play in choosing candidates for the party. What is obvious in all these is that all the political parties are the same except for a few like the late Gani's NCP who are not bouyant enough to make any impact. The general trend is that when they are getting large, they prove unable to manage their big size because their undemocratic principles like the imposition of candidates, the idea of consensus candidates without primaries are not sustainable. The consequence is the the shameful cross-carpetting that we witness every now and then. ACN's governance of Lagos State is very fragile. They need to do more in the interiors. We know that the ACN has a budget for buying the press and that is why many of the respected journalists and newspapers do not report the shameful state of bad roads in the remote part of the state. 1 Like |

X-factoria:What more can I say? You have said it all. That rogue called Tinubu is only interested in partying with Lagos State funds. ACN is worse than PDP. |

A lot of people are starting to review Fashola's performance holistically without the bandwagon clarion call of "eko oni baje" people are engaging their brains once again, the hoodwink Fashola has been using has started to fall off people's eyes. Can someone tell me one-thing Fashola has done in the last 6 months, the man is living on past glory. To be sincere I do not blame him, we are in a political charged period and a lot of Lagos State's fund is spent on fighting battles in far-away Ekiti, Osun and probably Oyo and Ogun state, hence the slow-down of Fashola's goverment in recent months. |
