Following the directive by the Lagos State Government on the closure all Public and Private Schools, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo has called on Head Teachers and School Administrators to comply strictly with the State Government’s order.
Speaking on a Lagos Television live programme “Lagos Today”, the Commissioner disclosed that the Office of Education Quality Assurance will monitor the compliance level of schools within the State and anyone found culpable will be sanctioned.
Adefisayo emphasised that during the period, the students will be engaged with several take home assignments to keep them busy and enable them to continue their studies at home for continuous learning despite the closure.
She also averred that as part of measures to sustain continuous review and learning, the Lagos State Government intends to support SS3 students preparing for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) through some Radio and Television Programmes.
She explained that some of the teachers will be assigned to teach and review eight core subjects with emphasis on relevant topics, listing the subjects as English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature-In-English, Financial Accounting and Economics. Adefisayo stated that programme, which is to review what the students had already been taught before the break, will run from Monday through Thursdays.
Adefisayo revealed that a phone-in session with the Commissioner for Education and other teachers will be aired on Friday to create an avenue for the students to ask questions on challenging topics.
The Commissioner, therefore, urged parents to support the State Government’s efforts by ensuring that their children have access to these programmes designed to refresh their minds and prepare them for the forthcoming examinations.
