TRUCK DRIVER'S MENACE
Lagos Residents Cry Out To LASG, Takes Protest To Alausa

@VONNEWS

Residents and the Executives of Ago Phase 2 United Forum in Isolo Local Council Development Area in Lagos State have taken a protest to the Lagos seat of power in Alausa, to register their displeasure over the unwholesome traffic situation along the Ago Palace way, occasioned by the menace caused by truck drivers who park their vehicles indiscriminately,creating traffic girdlocks,causing accidents and exposing commuters to criminals.

The protest which took place on Thursday, the 19th day of March 2020 was massive and peaceful. At the Secretariat,the protesters were greeted by the media crew of Alausa who immediately got attracted by the activities of the protesters who covered the gate of the Lagos State House chanting solidarity songs.

Mr Nixon Okwara,Chairman and spokesman of the forum when speaking to the media team said that the indecent and illicit parking of trucks have caused terrible hardship,accidents and robberies on that axis. Okwara expressed his displeasure about how much the road that cost the Lagos State govt so much to construct has suddenly turned into a corridor for disaster due to the heavy container trucks and tankers plying that route daily, stressing that it is unfortunate that such nuisance is happening in Lagos State, a place Of excellence .

The gathering later attracted Mr. Kolawole,Director of Political Office who came to address the peaceful protesters on behalf of the govt. After listening to the protesters,he assured that the govt of Lagos state will soon convene a meeting of the residents and other stakeholders soonest to address this worrisome issue, promising that the govt will not leave any stone unturned in tackling all issues that affect the well-being of residents of the state.

The protesters left the Alausa Secretariat after telling their concerns in form of a peaceful protest and headed for the Isolo LCDA Secretariat where they lodged their grievances to the executive chairman who promised to take proper action about the ugly development and urged the protesters to be patient and wait for the intervention of the government in the matter.

The third tier chair also assured the residents of Ago phase 2 united forum that drastic measures will commence in just one week from the day of the protest and these measures will be a thorough one.

Some of the complaints lodged by the protesters includes that truck drivers uses the Ago road illegally and indiscriminately, traffic gridlock and accidents is almost an everyday ordeal and all this is caused by the heavy container trucks and tankers plying the Ago corridor. This has affected businesses, commuters and also created an atmosphere for criminals to operate.
