From Niyi Bello, Akure

SUSPECTED members of a five-man gang who abducted Mrs. Juliana Ogunleye, 65-year old wife of a Saudi Arabia-based Akure Prince and Consultant Gynecologist, Dr. Idowu Ogunleye, and held the woman captive for 16 days have been arrested by the police.

Sources within the Ondo Police Command said yesterday that the suspects, who were arrested in their hideout following a tip-off, included a lady and that they were undergoing interrogation at the police headquarters.

It was gathered that after an in-depth investigation by a team of crack detectives, two of the suspects were arrested and their confessions led to the arrest of others.

About three weeks ago, four gunmen invaded the Ogunleye's residence at Oluwatuyi Quarters, Akure while the old woman was playing with her grandchildren and whisked her away under the cover of darkness.

When a communication channel was established with the kidnappers two days later, a ransom of N30 million was demanded but was later reduced to N5 million "on compassionate grounds."

The Ondo State Command's Police Public Relations Officer, Adeniran Aremu, who confirmed the arrest, told The Guardian yesterday that "some of the kidnappers have been arrested and they are undergoing interrogation."

He, however, declined further information, saying divulging such may jeopardise the course of investigations but assured the people of the state that the culprits would be brought to book and that those still at large would be smoked out.
