People from across the world have been urged to join the climate movement from their homes via a digital livestream.

Even as the world battles the novel coronavirus which continues to claim lives, Earth Hour, observed annually on the last Saturday of March, will still be celebrated this year today, albeit digitally. With public events cancelled due to the pandemic, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is encouraging people to switch off the lights from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm as per their local time.

The idea is to refrain from the use of non-essential lighting to save energy in a symbolic call for environmental protection.

Usually, the hour is marked by turning off all electrical items, this year the United Nations has asked people to take a moment to honour those on frontlines fighting for the health of the citizens of the planet - our courageous health workers
