TREAT COVID-19 LIKE WAR; STAY AT HOME By Kenkwo, Kesaandu Kingsley It is so unfortunate that the dreaded Corona Virus has befallen Nigeria. The major challenge is that the leadership of this country had all the time in the world to protect our nation from Covid-19, but were not proactive and responsible to do the needful. Well, there is no need to cry over spilt milk, as the virus is already here with us. As we have all known the mode by which one can contact this virus, the best way to avoid the spread is by staying indoors and social distancing. Though, I have blamed the Presidency for their lackadaisical attitude of not providing the citizens with required relief materials to cushion the effects of staying at home. I have also advised state governments to pay salaries and pensions to workers and pensioners respectively as it will go along way to minimize the pain that will come with staying at home. Frankly speaking, the way citizens of this country are fighting not to obey the stay at home instruction of the government, baffles me tremendously. The recent clash between some youths of Warri and the Soldiers is another challenge that will claim more lives before the disease hits badly, but God have mercy. Many have argued that hunger will kill them if the nation is completely shutdown, which led to the Federal Government allowing citizens to buy and sell from 10am-2pm daily. This might seem nice to some persons, but no doubt, a simple way of spreading the virus as gatherings are highly prohibited, if the disease must be fought to a standstill. During serious wars, people do not go to markets in the name of trying to fight hunger, as no one would want to be exposed to the enemies. Covid-19 pandemic is our enemy as at today. I encourage all citizens to see Corona Virus as the third world war enemy, that everyone must run inside for safety and protection as it is seriously sophisticated and armed to the teeth. No doubt that it will not be easy with most Nigerians but contacting the disease is a problem of its own, as we are not medically equipped to take care of infected persons, considering the state of our health sector. As I advice the government at all levels to help provide and distribute food items to citizens, I equally advise our people to save themselves if government fails to be responsible and proactive. My people, Corona Virus has the capacity to wipe out the entire citizens of this country from the surface of the earth. I pray that God Almighty and through the intercession of Our Holy Mother Mary, shall not allow it to hit us like other countries of Europe and America. If developed countries can witness such death in thousands, what will be the fate of Nigeria? It is only the living and healthy that feeds or do business. Let us all see Covid-19 pandemic as a war that we must all run into hiding and fight from our homes. We have so many challenges and problems ravaging this country and would not allow Covid-19 to annihilate us. Remember, he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day. My people, obey the rules and regulations of government and stay at home. Remember the story of the oak and the pine trees. MAY GOD PROTECT AND BLESS NIGERIA. Kenkwo, Kesaandu Kingsley (KKK) President, Ihitte/Uboma Youth Forum. |

Well said. While I believe most of government and corporate funds for this situation should be channelled to reaching individuals (especially cash). Not staying at home would create anarchy and millions getting infected (which could happen real quick in few months), I want to see how the trade and commerce to feed would go on if that happens. It would mean death of the same hunger or the virus for even a larger portion of the population, over a far longer period too! 2 weeks of sacrifice is not too much to ask to prevent an impending disaster of catastrophic ramifications. If your pastor/imam asked you to fast for 40 days and 40 nights against some imaginary/virtual enemy(ies), I bet y'all would. Between my late teenage years and early 20s, my family and I went through the Babangida and Abacha lockdowns without mobile phones, without internet, without mobile banking, with a sick father, with an out-of-job mother and 5 other younger siblings. Yes, it was trialsome, but hunger didn't kill us -- we survived, it taught us hard useful lessons that made us who we all are today. Yes, we are in a terrible situation, but what is our alternative? Plague and multiple deaths if we don't comply -- get with the program: lockdown. As we speak, many entrepreneurs are losing millions/billions in sales, some have taken loans that would probably give them HBP maybe lead to death, NOT only poor people are affected, it is a pandemic and this is what it does! As I type, I have my own serious worries too! |
