I was surprised when she shook her head.
'Are you scared I will hurt you?' I asked further.

Again, she shook her head.

'You're afraid you will get pregnant?'

She shook her head. I became exasperated. 'So, what is it?'

She sat up on the bed. 'i think we should stop doing it.'

'What?!' My surprise could not be masked. 'Why d'you think we should stop?'

She clouded her face a bit. 'You should know. Good christians should not be having sex before marriage.'

I stared at her and burst into laughter. I would have laughed more, but I quickly remember mum's room was not far from mine and she might come around to know who I was chatting with and what the matter was.

I stared at Kike again. 'Are you joking or what?' I demanded.

'I'm serious,' she said. 'I was carried away those times we did it. But, I think we have to stop now.'

'Really?' It was an effort for me to bottle my anger. This girl or young lady, or whatever, was very funny. She was talking about not having sex before marriage, did I tell her I wanted to marry her? Had I said anything like marriage to her? Why was she lumping things up? However, rather that showing anger, I was calm.

'Alright, if that's what you want, no problem. You can take your gifts and go back to your room.'

She looked sad. 'Sweetheart, don't be angry,' she said soothingly.

'I'm not angry,' I retorted.

'But you are,' she pointed out. 'Your tone shows that you're angry.'

I forced a smile. 'Alright, can you now see that I'm not angry? Good night.' .

She got up from the bed. 'If this is the way you will treat me, I won't take the gifts.'

'What?' This young lady would not stop amazing me.

'Are you now rejecting all these.'

'Yes, if you're not happy.'

'Oh my God, did I say I was not happy with you?'

'But you're showing it. You're showing that you're angry.'

I sighed. This was the first time a lady would be rejecting gift from me. I couldn't believe the very person that was doing that was Kike. I should have been mad with her, but I remained cool.

'Alright,' I said. 'I'm not angry with you. It's just that your decision came as a shock, but it's okay. Come and take your gifts.'

She hesitated. I took the shopping bag and handed it to her.

'Come on, Kike. It's for you. Take it.'

She nodded. 'Thank you.'

'You're welcome.'

'Good night.'

'Yeah, good night.'

She went away. I could not but think about her confidence and assertiveness.

By the following day, I decided not to bother Kike about sex again. Since she had said she no longer wanted it, I would let the matter be. However, I continued to have admiration for her and would continue to be nice to her. That weekend, Bisola called.
'You've forgotten about me or what? Why didn't you ever bother to call?'

'Oh, I'm sorry. How are you Bisola?'

'Fine. Campus is boring. How's the weekend going to be?'

I thought fast. Now that Kike had come with her abstinence theory, I would have to look for alternative way of venting my passion. But certainly, not in my house.

Now, I believed indeed I needed an apartment of my own. Bringing ladies to my parents' house must stop. It was not just because of Kike. I believed I had reached that maturity and stage of life.

'Do you know the office at Yaba?' I asked her.

'Yes.'

I grinned to myself. 'I have a room at the BQ of the house. Let's meet there.'

'Okay.'

I grinned as I dressed up. My t-shirt and trouserd were new. I had no doubt I looked good. Being a Saturday, it was a smooth ride to Yaba. Within thirty minutes, I was driving to the parking space of the office building. Since the elections were over, there had been serious lull in the activities at the office both on weekdays and weekends.

This Saturday, apart from the security man at the gate, the place looked deserted. I went to the room I stayed in during off-office hours. There was a big bed, a table and a chair, and those were the things the room could boast.

Even the wardroom yawned in emptiness. I sat on the chair, close to the desk to await my guest. Fifteen minutes later, I heard footsteps. A peep through the window showed that Bisola was the one coming.
She breezed in, looking chic.

'Hello, darling,' I greeted.

'Hi. How d'you do?'

She dropped her handbag on the table and came to sit astride my legs, her two hands on my shoulders. I trusted that she would not waste time on a matter like this.

I put my hands around her waist.

'I'm glad to be with you,' she said.

'Me too.'

She held my head to her bosom. I sniffed at her top, especially at the boobs areas.

'I like your perfume,' I told her.

She nodded and closed her eyes. She was in no mood for talks. I pulled her t-shirt over her head and removed it. Her boobs were encased in a red bra that was very sexy.

My mouth went to the cups of the boobs, went to the points where the nipples were and nibbled at them. She put her hands across my neck. I continued the nibble-like action until I decided to take a step further.
I unhooked the strap of the bra and removed it from covering her bust. I stared at the now naked nipples. They looked taunt. I resumed the near-nibble action and she held me tighter.

I did that for some minutes and decided to take another step again. I made her to stand up so that I could unzip my jeans and pull the trousers down. She completely removed her leg that crossed my own so that she would easily unzip her skirt and bring it down too.

Her pant was a white one with red flower patterns. It was as sexy as the bra, and the two matched. She pulled it off and sat astride me again. My organ was fully erect and ready for action. I brought her to my laps, ensuring that my organ penetrated the right natural canal. I held her tightly across the waist while she held me too across the neck.

It was a passion-filled moment. The action was mutual as the two of us did our best to satisfy the other person. By the time I climaxed, I felt I was in cloud seven.

We took a break after the first session. The second one was slower and took a longer time to come.

It was a passion-filled moment. The action was mutual as the two of us did our best to satisfy the other person. By the time I climaxed, I felt I was in cloud seven. We took a break after the first session. The second one was slower and took a longer time to get to its peak. I wanted no more after that, but she was not yet satisfied. After the third session, I was certain that I could go for no more. I directed her to the eatery where the office assistant used to buy food for us, so she could buy a meal. We took fried rice and fried plantain with beef for lunch. Bisola and I were together till about five p.m before we decided to leave our love nest.

I drove her to their campus at Akoka.

'When do we meet again?' she asked.

Not so soon, I thought.

'I'll let you know,' I said. I gave her some money for the weekend before she alighted at the parking space in the front of her residence hall.

Bisola and I continued to meet at our 'love nest' every Saturday for the next weeks. But there was something I found myself doing any time I met
with her. On my way home, I would buy something for Kike. The first time I did, she was reluctant to accept the items. I had bought some ankara and Guinea materials for her.

'Mummy will be suspicious,' she said.

'How?'

‘She will wonder where I'm getting money to buy fine clothes.'

'Tell her I bought them for you,' I said.

Over the time, I bought t-shirts, jeans skirts, shoes, undies, bar soaps and perfumes, and so on, for her. She was right: mum became suspicious.

One evening, mum came to meet me in my bedroom.

'Kike said you're the one buying clothes and accessories for her,' she started. 'Is that true?'

'Yes, mummy.'

She stared at me curiously. 'Are you having an affair with her?'

I chuckled. 'No mum.'

Her face showed that she didn't believe me.

'Well, actually, I used to, but I've stopped. She brought religion matter to it, so I stopped.'

'What religion matter?'

'Something like it's not good to engage in sex outside marriage.'

She didn't seem surprised by my confession. In fact, it was as if she knew that something was going on between Kike and me.

'She's a good girl, but please she still wants to go to school,' mum went on. 'See her more like a sister.'

I nodded. I was at least happy that mum did not react badly to the relationship between Kike and me. By April, Kike took the UTME and did very well. She would still have to wait for about another couple of months before she would write her post-UTME.

By June the elected senators were inaugurated. Senator Osho started his second term in the senate in grand style. It was also time for him to compensate those of us that assiduously worked for his re-election. Ms. Davies retained her position as Chief of Staff. Others got this position or that. As for yours sincerely, I became the (wait for it) Head of Media. I was to monitor media news and events and report to him accordingly. It also meant I would be shuffling with him between Lagos and Abuja.

By September, the post-UTME results that Kike did came out. Kike was not offered her first choice course which was law. She was however given admission for her second choice which was English language at the University of Ibadan. I was very happy for her. Her sponsorship would not create any problem as my parents had agreed to take full responsibilities. I also promised Kike to play my own role.

In Abuja, I had started my work in earnest. I promised to do my very best. Getting accommodation at the legislative quarters in Apo was tough, so Ms. Davies had an alternative arrangement.

'The senator has three rooms in his bq. You can take one of them for now.'

‘Alright, madam.’

I wondered about how convenient that would be. I however shrugged it off when I remembered that most times, I would be in Lagos, and that I
could always hole myself in my room anytime I was at home in Abuja. In Lagos, I was not to share office with anybody as I now had a cozy office
to myself. Top on my priority was how to get a two-bedroom flat for myself in Lagos. I told dad about it.

'There's no problem with that,' he returned. 'Get an agent to look for a good place for you and let me know the costs.'

I met with an estate agent who helped me to secure a two-bedroom at Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos. I had already paid for the place before telling
dad. I was able to pay for it from my savings. It was high time I started living responsibly.

But dad insisted on furnishing the place. The following weekend, I moved to my new abode.

In Abuja, once we had closed for the day, Ms. Davies simply had no time for me. She had her life to live and I had mine.

There were social spots in Abuja that I sometimes frequented, but I found myself becoming an introvert more and more. I had also cut down the
number of ladies in my life. Right now, I could say that I only had Bisola and Kike. While Bisola satisfied the salacious part of me, Kike fulfilled the
cool and solemn part. But, somehow, I believed I loved Kike. I had tried to get her off my mind, even in far-away Abuja, but I could not. Now
that she had started her degree programme, believe me, I was seriously considering proposing marriage to her.

That sounded somehow, right? But that was what had been nagging at my mind. She was now twenty one while I just celebrated my twenty-
fifth birthday, but I felt I could not wait any more. One cool evening in the early days of December, I called Kike on the phone to bare my mind.

'How's campus?' I started.

'Campus is cool. How are you too? Are you in Lagos or Abuja?'

'Right now, I'm in Lagos,' I replied. 'I miss you.'

'I miss you too, sweetheart.'

There was a pause.

'There's something I should have told you which I haven't.'

'Really? What's that?'

'I love you.'

There was a slight pause in communication, then she burst out laughing.

'But you've said that before.'

'Not only that,' I quickly put in. 'Kike, I want to marry you.'

There was silence such that if a pin had dropped, we would hear the sound.

There was a pause.

'I love you.'

There was a slight pause in communication, then she burst out laughing.

'But you've said that before.'

There was silence such that if a pin had dropped, we would hear the sound.

'Hello? Hello?'

No response.

'Hello? Kike, are you still there?'

The only answer I got was a sound from the phone indicating that the call had been terminated.

I hissed and quickly re-dialed her number. Surprisingly, I could not get true. What was this? Could she too be making efforts to call me back?
After making few more attempts, I stopped. Maybe she would call back, I reasoned. Ten minutes later, she did not. I tried her number again, but
it was still not going. Gosh!

It was about seven a.m the following morning that I was able to get to her.

'Good morning, love. What happened yesterday? The line suddenly went dead and I could not reach you again. Your battery went flat or what?'

'Good morning. The battery was okay,' she replied.

'So, how come I wasn't able to get to you again?'

'I switched the phone off,' she replied calmly.

'What!?' I was stupefied. 'Why did you do that?'

There was a brief silence. 'Because I wanted to be sure I was hearing properly.'

Now, I relaxed a bit and grinned. 'Of course, you're hearing properly my dear. I will repeat what I said, but this time, I will say it in form of a
question: Kike, will you marry me?'

There was another short silence. 'You don't have to pull my legs, Uncle Henry.'

I was amazed. Why did she find it difficult to believe me? Why would I be pulling her legs? And where was this 'Uncle Henry' stuff coming from?

I breathed in deeply. 'Kike, listen. God knows you're the first ever lady I would tell such a thing, and God knows I'm very serious with what I said.'

There was another pause.

'Kike, are you still there?' I asked.

'Yes.'

'Do you want to think over it? Should I give you some time?'

'I want to pray over it.'

I nodded. 'No problem, I will wait.'

We discussed a lit bit more before the connection was cut.

I never imagined that I would propose marriage to a lady and she would tell me that she wanted to think or pray over it. But with Kike, things
were different.

That weekend, I was in my Lawanson flat, thinking about Kike. It was three days ago I told her about the marriage proposition and she was yet
to give me an answer. Wow, so this lady could keep me waiting like this! My phone rang and I was surprised to find myself hoping that Kike was
on the line. But, she wasn't.

'Hello, Bisola,’ I said into the mouthpiece. ‘How’re you?’

'Dull. Are you at home? I'm on my way to your house.'

I sighed. 'Yeah, I'm at home.'

'Okay, I'll soon be there.'

Within thirty minutes, Bisola got to my flat.

'Hello, love,' she greeted.

'Hello, dear.'

We kissed briefly. Today, she was wearing jeans trousers and a blue t-shirt. She looked pretty in them.

'So, how's the weekend?' she asked.

'Let's just say we thank God,' I replied.

She came to sit on my legs and to rub my chest, but the last thing on my mind was sex.

I didn't have to wait for long. Within thirty minutes, Bisola got to my flat.

'Hello, love,' she greeted.

'Hello, dear.'

We kissed briefly. Today, she was wearing jeans trousers and a blue t-shirt. She looked pretty in them.

She came to sit on my legs and to rub my chest, but the last thing on my mind was sex.

'When are you planning to do wedding?' she asked.

I was surprised by the question.

'What wedding?'

'Our wedding.'

I nearly burst into laughter. How presumptuous! Did I ever tell her about wedding?

'I'm not thinking about any wedding,' I answered.

'But we can't remain single forever,' she pointed out. 'I'll be graduating next year and within two years of graduating, I will love us to have the
wedding.'

I was bemused. Surely, she was thinking in error if she imagined that I would take her to the altar.

An idea suddenly occurred to me. 'I will pray about it,' I said.

She looked at me sharply and incredibly. 'What did you say?'

'I said I will pray about it,' I repeated.

She looked at me curiously and burst into laughter. 'Oh dear. But then, no problem, I won't mind marrying a pastor!'

I knew she was trying to pooh pooh the import of what I said, but then, she would not be getting any commitment from me.

'Why're you so cool, today?' she asked.

'Cool?'

'Yes. I'm sitting on your lap and you've not even touched me.'

'Oh.' I grinned. 'I'm a little bit down.'

‘Don't be down o. I'm here now, so, you shouldn't be down.'

I nodded. She was quite right. She was with me, so why must I be down? I knew it was Kike's matter that was making me to be down, but that
was unnecessary. I decided to consider my situation as a bird in hand being worthier than two in the bush. It was succinct: Bisola was the bird in
hand. I managed to respond to her by cuddling her body. Right there in the sitting-room, we had each other. Bisola remained in my apartment till
the following day, Sunday.

'This is one of the most exciting weekends I have ever had,' she gushed. I drove her back to her campus as it had become habitual of me.

Before she got down from the car, she said something I found irksome: 'I think the earlier we get married, the better. I don't want any other lady
to snatch you away from me. I can't bear losing you.'

She kissed me goodbye and disembarked from the car. Now, why was it that it was when I told Kike about marriage that Bisola too was bringing
forth the matter?

Before she got down from the car, she said something I found irksome: 'I think the earlier we get married, the better. I don't want any other lady to snatch you away from me. I can't bear losing you.'

She kissed me goodbye and disembarked from the car. Now, why was it that it was when I told Kike about marriage that Bisola too was bringing forth the matter?

Anyway, I would keep telling her I would pray about it and, finally, I would come with the answer that God did not give me the go ahead. That
should be simple enough, shouldn't it?

It was Monday morning that Kike finally called me.

'I've seriously prayed about it,' she said. 'The Lord said it can be.'

'Really? Does that mean your answer is yes?'

'I’m not too sure. But to me, personally, the answer is yes.’ '

'Hmn, that's Kike, my baby.' I found myself getting excited.

But that was ironic. At the back of my mind, I believed she should be the one to get excited because I proposed to marry her. Why was I
behaving over her like this?

'But, there's a clause,' she went on.

I became alert. 'What clause?'

'I was made to understand the there's a thorn in your flesh that must be got rid off, if everything is to go well.'

I caught my breath. 'A thorn in the flesh? What is that thorn in the flesh?'

'That is what you really have to pray about. Are you ready to turn your life to Christ? Doing that will help you attain what you desire, especially
about me.'

I breathed in deeply. It was interesting to note that my dear Kike was sermonizing. I briefly considered what she said. The 'thorn' she was
referring to, I had no doubt, was my lust for sex. I had options before me. If I wanted a wild, sex life, Bisola would perfectly fit in, but I wanted
such a life no more. I preferred to go with cool Kike, and that would mean I had to drop 'the wild' aspect.

'I will pray for you,' Kike was saying. 'I love you and I really want to be your wife, but we have to pray.'

I felt lifted by her words. 'Alright, Kike. Don't worry, things will work out well.'

If I wasn't very sure before, now I was certain that I was in love with her. It didn't matter that she was our house maid. It didn't matter that my parents were the ones sponsoring her education. I was now fully convinced that Kike was the lady for me. The following morning, Tuesday, I took early morning flight to Abuja to work at the Abuja office. By Friday afternoon, I was back in Lagos. Kike and I were now in touch every day. Now,

I loved to hear her voice. I even had to persuade her to send her accounts details to me so that I would send some money to her. A couple of hours after I arrived Lagos that Friday afternoon, Dad called me.

'I want you to come to Ikeja this evening,' he said. 'There's a matter we need to discuss.'

'Okay, dad.'

By seven p.m., I was at our Ikeja home. Dad had not yet come, but mum was around. I gave mum a bear hug.

'This your new job is paying off,' she said. 'See how your cheeks are coming out.'

We laughed briefly. Dad did not come until eight o'clock. In the large living-room, dad, mum and I sat to discuss private matter.

'It's something we should have told you before now,' dad began. 'But we decided to wait until she is about to complete her education. Now, the
time is ripe.'

I was in the dark about what dad was talking about, so I kept quiet.
