At the newsroom of the world health organization https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses the organization stated that it is continuously monitoring and responding to the outbreak and that it will continue to give updates as more is known about coronavirus, how it spreads and how it is affecting people worldwide.
Coronavirus, a large family of viruses which is known to cause respiratory infections had broken out in November 2019 and has since infected over a million and two hundred thousand with confirmed death of over 60,000 people.
In addressing how long the virus survive on surfaces, the WHO stated that it is still not certain how long the virus survives but strides suggest that it may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days depending on the type of surface temperature or humidity of the environment.
The World Health Organization therefore recommends cleaning of surfaces with simple disinfectant to kill the virus and protect members of a household. The organization also recommend cleaning of hands with an alcohol based hand rub or washing of hands with soap and water.

1. SOAP AND WATER
The United Nations Children’s Fund https://www.unicef.org/coronavirus/everything-you-need-know-about-washing-your-hands-protect-against-coronavirus-covid-19 describes the hands as one of the most common ways that the virus spreads from one person to the next. One of the cheapest, easiest and most important ways to prevent the spread of a virus is to wash your hands with soap and water. It is important to note that cold water and warm water are equally effective at killing germs and viruses – as long as you use soap.

2. ALCOHOL BASED HAND SANITIZER
The Centre for Disease Control https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/show-me-the-science-hand-sanitizer.html recommends soap and water for hand washing but if soap and water are not available, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can help against getting sick and spreading germs to others. Whatever other ingredients like moisturizers or scents present in a hand sanitizer, alcohol is the active ingredient and should be 60-95%.

3. BLEACH
Bleach is especially effective on hard (non-porous) surfaces https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cleaning-disinfection.html High touch surfaces can be cleaned and disinfected daily in household. Diluted household bleach solution (at least 1000ppm sodium hydrochloride) can be used for surfaces with strict adherence to manufacturer’s instructions.
Ensure a contact time of at least 1 minute and proper ventilation during and after application. Note that it is not necessary to mix bleach with any other cleanser.

4. METHYLATED SPIRIT
NBC news https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/better/amp/ncna1160271 noted that coronavirus is no match for good disinfecting products. Methylated spirits containing 95% ethanol or 100% isopropyl alcohol for at least 30 seconds. This is particularly useful against hard surfaces like phones and electronics in general.

5. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
According to consumers report https://www.consumerreports.org/cleaning/common-household-products-that-can-destroy-novel-coronavirus/ Just 3% of household hydrogen peroxide is effective in deactivating rhinovirus, the virus that causes the common cold within 6 to 8 minutes of exposure. And since rhinovirus is more difficult to destroy than coronaviruses, hydrogen peroxide should be able to break down coronavirus in less time. Since it is not corrosive, it can be used on metal surfaces but note that it can discolor fabrics. It is effective for hard to reach corners especially when poured into spray bottles.
