The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos was filled with massive foreigners who were on their feet to flee away from the African country. Most of them visited for either business or vacation purposes.

As a result of the covid-19 outbreak, and to fulfill the promises made by the U.S government to her citizens in diaspora, over 376 citizens of the United State departed from Lagos for Washington Dulles International Airport.

Before getting on the flight, health officials in Lagos state conducted the generic temperature checks for all passengers.

The Ethiopian Airlines chattered flight departed around 5:25 pm and it’s the first batch of repatriation flights specifically for American citizens out of Lagos state. In the coming days, additional flights are also expected to depart.

Because this is a delicate situation, priority for boarding the flights is given to the people with severe health issues, physically challenged citizens, women with pregnancy and the elderly. The U.S plans to get about 1,000 Americans out of Nigeria before this week runs out.

According to Claire Pieranglo who is the U.S Consul General, the Lagos state government, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Immigration Service have cooperated excellently with the repatriation flights. The flight demonstrated a major effort by the US Consulate General in Lagos.

In terms of emergency like this, the Department of State topmost concern is the safety of American citizens who are overseas. To this end, throughout countries in the world, the United State is working tirelessly to ensure that Americans who intend to return to their community and family are able to travel back safely.

The Americans evacuated from Nigeria were joyous and they expressed their profound gratitude to the United State government for their relentless assistance to U.S citizens stranded in Nigeria.

The question is WHY ARE OTHER COUNTRIES EVACUATING THEIR CITIZENS

I fail to understand the reason for the evacuation, when we have less than 20 casualties so far and New York records almost 500 casualties daily.
Is there something our government isn't telling us

Even in the midst of the thousands of deaths being recorded in their country...even when all evidence shows their country is worst hit by this pandemic...they still consider their country much safer than Nigeria.

i thought it was supposed to be the other way round seeing that the number of cases here is insignificant compared to theirs, but then they know deep down that for every death recorded, their country fought tooth and nail to prevent it.

such priority, such dedication, such genuine concern is more consoling, even in death...and is not guranteed in Nigeria.
