Why must I be logged on to facebook to send someone a message? Why not direct SMS and/or email?

Methinks the facebook thing is an unnecessary extra step.

because getting information about a user is essential can't have the public sending mail just like that on ur web thats why yahoo and the rest were created,it's better than the sign up process.besides if u logged in fb before it wont be a big deal
