Re: by Jenifa1: 7:22am On Jan 05, 2011 |
chaircover: the coconut oil is pure unrefined and organic. definitely not a cosmetic cream. it should come in a jar. and sometimes even promoted as a cooking oil (another one of its uses ) it's really hard in the cold but if you put it near the heater or in a warm room, it is very soft and turns into oil. very low freezing and melting point. Here is a video you can use to learn how to do two strand twists. Although the little girls' hair textures seems to be perhaps 3b or 4a you can still achieve the style. You don't necessarily have to use the products that she [the mother] used either. [flash=400,400] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4OhF0FF6Wg[/flash] chaircover: Well, seems like Jenifa_'s got everything covered with the coconut oil . Hehehe, chaircover you've got such a sense of humor . If you need other videos on detangling, washing, moisturizing, cute hairstyles or any other hair relates question then feel free to ask. There's a whole online community for this sort of stuff. Jenifa_: Hehehe, Jenifa_ perhaps you're my natural hair twin |

Re: by InkedNerd(f): 8:24am On Jan 05, 2011 |
chaircover: No problem. If you wanna part her hair to do two strand twists or any other style, you can saturate her hair with water or some sort of moisturizer or even a leave-in conditioner. The key to making it easy on her is to make sure her hair is saturated. I have a question, when you touch her hair, is is dry? And do you comb her hair when it isn't wet? If so, what comb or brush do you use? And when you comb/brush her hair, how do you comb/brush it? How do you hold her hair when you comb/brush it? Hehehe, as for touching a guys hair, I doubt that would do any good. There's never any guarantee that the child will end up with hair like the parents. I have a neighbor who has wavy hair and the husband has loose curly hair and the child has very thick coily hair. Genetics is a mystery at times . It wouldn't matter to me anyway--the dude could have the roughest hair in the world or the softest. |

chaircover: Chineke!!! I wish you could just send her to me so I could do her hair. I feel bad for the both of you. Is her hair usually dry? [sorry, if the questions seem repetitive]. Could you please post pictures of the types of combs/brushes you use so I can have a better idea of what you use? And how do you wash her hair? Once again, please forgive me if these questions seem repetitive . I'm just trying to get a good idea of what her hair is like and what you do to it. chaircover: lol ok auntie |

Hehehe, I said how do you wash it, not what do you use to wash it. For example, when my hair was longer I washed my hair in sections so I could make the detanling and washing process easier--I'd usually part my hair into four sections and gently wash my hair and scalp. By the way, you might wanna try giving your little one scalp massages every once in a while. It'll stimulate hair growth, allow her scalp to relax a bit since she seems to be in pain at time, and it'll allow you to bond with her . ::sighs:: I remember when my mom used to do that. By the way, do you use any of the combs in the video? Here's a video of a woman demonstrating how she washes her daughter's hair. [flash=500,500] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsGHj33MR78[/flash] |

Re: by armyofone(m): 5:03pm On Jan 05, 2011 |
mukina, right there i'd prefer all boys true true. so inked, relax for that's my wish. i remmy when mom used to plait my hair with thread. she was soooo good at it. she would do so many style real beautiful style with thread and artificial (to make my hair much longer for the style). for 4 days, i won't be able to sleep or carry anything on my head. week 1 thread, next week nice weavings (that she can't do so she would send me to the idomas/tiv girls to do it). phew!! i look back and i say na wah. i wouldn't want to do same to my kids CC, why you no wan bb the lil darling hair now? |
Re: by mukina2: 5:33pm On Jan 05, 2011 |
armyofone:lol your own better, for me it took two whole days or more to finish simple corn rows on my head , my mum will hold something on her hand to beat me if i dare move, i will get up every 5 mins, for water/pee go play and come back, fake sleep as for that thread thing, they always did that on my head for day of the African child, the woman (lady who did the threading) will put my head inbetween her legs mehn i go cry taya. bottom line is i hate doing my hair , even now , i prefer braiding for long term purposes only, no short term hair style for me abeg, and it should be braids, i do not like combing my hair at all |

Awww Kpele. It is a lot of work keeping up with little girl's hair. I don't condone using chemicals at an early age. I am glad my parents did not. My scalp is very tender and I can't handle relaxers even at this grown age. They cut my hair until teenage. Well I had strict parents and didn't have much say growing up. Take your time when doing her hair. Comb little sections at a time and braid every weekend as mentioned by some NL sisters above. |
Re: by Jenifa1: 11:31pm On Jan 05, 2011 |
CC, when you wash her hair, wash in sections. put her hair into 6 braids before washing so that it doesn't tangle. her hair will still be clean don't worry. after washing and towelling (use a cotton shirt preferable as opposed to the conventional towerl), take out each section of braid and saturate the damp hair with coconut oil. twist as you go till it's all done! the first time, dont worry too much about making perfect lines. just use your fingers and be gentle. you don't even need a comb. make sure to moisturize on damp hair or use a water-based moisturizer. water= moisture. |

mukina2: My mum used to bribe me then with fanta, lest my father hear my screams and run out to rescue me.Trust me, I was asking for fanta every 5minutes.The poor woman was going bankrupt and decided to send me to one "Iya esther" (I will never forget that woman's name or forgive her for the emotional trauma she put me through when she used to make my hair, infact its not too late to sue her) that woman will put my head inbtwn her legs and did it smell down there?Yes I used to tell my sisters then That I think she's never washed her back and front side since the time of war. Gawd and after the threading , gosh I look like someone that just went under the knife,Infact I looked like "Joan rivers" . |

jennykadry:it seems like all of us had those ladies that would shove our heads between their legs , my dad always travelled but when he was around no one dares touch my head , my head would be in 'bubbles' like this : even with that sef, my mum had to be careful or i'll scream. she would hold the hair underneath, oil it wella and comb, it does not hurt that way. |
Re: by blank(f): 12:34pm On Jan 06, 2011 |
I was thinking of those big brown combs. Don't know wat its called but that comb u showed would break in my hair n my hair is relaxed. |

@Inked-nerd thanx for this @ileke Hi, Pls do you mean you keep your natural hair? If yes, is it long or short cut? I am asking this cos I have been thinking of going natural since but the fear |
Re: by damiso(f): 4:26pm On Jan 06, 2011 |
@CC thank you so much for this post,i have learnt so much.MyLO is16 months old and even the poof poof sef is war.Ever since she started walking once she sees me approaching with the comb, she flies off.Her hair is quite long for her age and so the poof poof now gets so rough fast am talking like in 2 to 3 days. I also am not a fan of chemicals on kids and so i have been dreading the next couple of years cos me am not that patient and i doubt any hairdresser in this uk has time for my LO hair sopa operas. And the father instead of encouraging me will be saying that i am punishing his princess as if she would not thank me in the future when she has healthy,I was tempted to chop the whole thing off sef.But this thread has given me necessary tips though i already use olive oil and shea butter. |
Re: by mukina2: 4:58pm On Jan 06, 2011 |
oludashmi:go natural only if you have the time and energy, maintaining natural hair is hard . .very hard, i tried it from grades 10-12 and i saw pepper, what saved me was that i could have one hairstyle for 3 months tiny folds on my head, for natural hair when the hairstyle is rough that's when its nice, all i did was wash with shampoo, and oil wella it shines, but if you are not at school, that kinda hairstyle is not advisable not unless you wan carry dread locks for head damiso:lol sorry manage am for now, later on just cut her hair, nice boy cut you wont regret it, saves you time from chasing her all over the house |
Re: by HTownEve(f): 6:35pm On Jan 06, 2011 |
@ Oludashmi You can do weaves/braids until the natural hair grows and then maybe do sister locks. You have to really care for natural hair tho. |
