This passage says it's optional to get married or not and it never says it is a must not to get married as some compel their people. Even many of the apostles of Jesus Christ were married Matthew 8:14-15, 1Cor 9:4-5.

Paul was trying to say that, if any man can remain unmarried, like he is, it is good; and if you can't, you can marry.
Nobody compels any body to remain unmarried; it a personal choice. A choice made out of pure desire to serve God.

If as a Christian you don't understand that fasting is central to spiritual growth, then go for a spiritual reorientation.

Being the day Christians all over the world commemorate the suffering and death of Jesus Christ in AD 33, the Catholic Church encourages a form of fasting and penance in line with the salvific but horrible death of Jesus. The least minimum of this fast is abstaining from meat.

When you understand the Bible alongside your faith, you can go extra mile to live out. The Bible is a guide. The way you live your life should complement what the Bible guides you towards. Shalom

I'm a Catholic and also a priest. I was not compelled. And no one was ever compelled. You accept to be a Catholic priest by choice, haven prayerfully decipher the will of God for you. That's why it takes a minimum of 10 years before you are ordained a priest in the Catholic Church

I think the Catholics make celibacy a requisite to serve as a priest because, they believe that it will make them (priests) to lead the congregation diligently and wholeheartedly. You know 'on-side' that, marriage comes with commitments and responsibilities.
However, there maybe some spiritual and theological reasons for this, I can't say for sure.
