My reason is that anyone who plans to invest $15 Billion ( Approximately 2 trillion naira) of federal funds into government run industries does not understand Nigeria's problems. See the following FACTS:

#1, It is a historically proven fact that the Federal Government cannot successfully run any profitable organization. I can confidently draw my examples from NITEL, NEPA, FRSC, NNPC, Federal Universities, Federal roads, , endless list

#2, Any organization operated by the Federal Government of Nigeria is bound to be characterized by corruption

#3, Disbursement of allocations on a federal level always results in inefficiencies and waste

#4, Given proper enabling business environment, private organizations will invest their own capital and ensure adequate function and profitability of these necessary organizations

#5, Nigeria is in its current predicament because of these large amounts of money available at the federal level.

If there is death penalty for embezzlement of public fund as practised in China there will be efficiency.

Exactly what has all that to do with Buhari?

In the context of a "Bring the Book Back" Campaign, a compilation of facebook conversations does not qualify as a book. It is seems to me you don't know the dynamics of attracting direct foreign investment?
1. You have to invest in existing infrastructures, to make it look attractive.
2.You have to create a conducive environment e.g. Security, power, roads etc.
3.You must be credit worthy etc etc.
These are some of the dynamics.
Concession is another aspect of attracting direct foreign investment. There too, you must be credit worthy.
Lagos State govt., invested 15billion nair, as part of their concession/PPP, with LCC.
So be educated pls.

Buhari promises to industrialise Nigeria

Former head of state, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has promised that if elected president in 2011, he will industrialise Nigeria.

Buhari, who spoke on Saturday during the state congress of the Congress of Progressive Change, said he would construct a coal-fired power station and cement factory in Enugu State.

In a message delivered through the Coordinator, Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, the presidential aspirant said the CPC had an elaborate plan to construct mini-power stations across the country, targeting abundant coal deposits in Enugu, Benue, Kogi states and other parts of the country.

On how he intends to fund the industries, Okechukwu said Buhari believed that over $15bn accruing annually to the Federation Account from oil receipts, Liquified Natural Gas, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Tax Revenue and Customs Duty, if prudently utilised, would be enough to establish them.

If we want power to work properly in Nigeria, it cannot be the FG directly in charge of it (at least, imo.)

There are ways for the FG to use its influence/money to support something without directly taking control.

When we had a Yaradua, who had part of his family house still in mud after 8yrs as Gov in a corrupt dispensation what did we do with him?

Buhari is an excellent candidate from his antecedents, but like Sanusi Lamido Sanusi put it I am not sure he can re enact his performance of the early 80s, the times have changed, as a nation we have become more sophisticatesd, the level of corruption is now so sophisticated, the line between corruption and upright is blurred, the truth be said some people are even innocently pracyising corruption, corruption feeds 85% of the populace. He could just end up like Okonkwo of Things fall apart.

I hoped Buhari had defeated Obj in 2003 that was his opprtunity, but as things stand now Buhari may just end up rubbishing his legacy, corruption today must be fought with diplomacy or else we would lose the essence of the fight, even the US allows countries export arms to other countries illegaly just to have peace, will Buhari know when to look the other way and when to stand firm, this is more important than been an anticorruption president.

The nation would easily be in flames, he could easily be accused of witch hunting this has been a bane of our fight on corruption, will he have the patience to obey stupid court judgements like the ones that initially frreed Ibori and allowed Igbinedion to get awau with a slap on the wrist, what will he do when he has information that an accused is trying to secure bail only to jump it and the court will grant that bail.

He needs to have a very solid strategy to deliver him at Aso rock, but he can respect himself and become an elder states man that will always say no to IBB and Objs positions on national issues, a man Jonathan should be able to consult to get a plan through the council of state, support a govt that fights corruption/
