LOCKDOWN INCONVENIENCES, POLICE IN IKOT EKPENE ENJOYS FILL DAY OF EXTORTION AND BRIBERY RACKET.

No doubt the ongoing lockdown as a measure to curb the spread of the dreaded Covid-19 (Corona Virus), which as at the time of filing this report has no cure is sure biting hard on citizens in different ways, but the other disdain act noticed in the lockdown apart from the immoral hiking of foodstuffs’ prices by market people and the People Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Udom Emmanuel providing the state’s palliative measures for their party members only, is the fill day extortion of motorists by men of the Nigerian police in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state, alongside their civilian community police members.

At the popular Umuahia by Aba road junction, the confectionaries and fruits sellers that sell there were (had) to be evacuated by the police and their civilian community policing counterparts so as to enable them enjoy fill day of extortion without the prying eyes of the members of the public as a third party. Along Alterton, off Aba Road also, another racket of road block is mounted there, permitting and allowing only those who could pay or if you are a security operator a thoroughfare. That is also the situation at every other major road into a settlement in the ancient city, and first local government area in Nigeria, and the entire former West African British colony.

According to the eye witness, who filed in this report, the police men openly asked the petty traders to vacate their selling point so that they would not be seeing their atrocious activities. They had had to also harass the eye witness, who reported that it is the civilian community police members that solicit and only brings in the police to tackle stubborn and non co-operative victims. But the money las-las na oga police go sharam.
