Sit-At-Home : United For Zero Violence Foundation Distributes Bags Of Rice To Six Communities In Anambra

Six communities in the state have benefited from the largesse of the United for Zero Violence foundation, UZV, a non -governmental and nonprofit making organization to cushion the effects of Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Flagging off the first phase of the distribution of bags of rice to the selected communities, the coordinator, Mr. Ken Nwabueze, said food remains essential in fighting the pandemic.

Mr. Nwabueze, who is a former Special Adviser to Ex-President George Bush of USA on Science and Technology and the Prime Minister of Ogidi community, who spoke through the state chairman of the Foundation, Mr.Ikechukwu Ikele explained that the Foundation is committed to eliminating all forms of violence in the society adding that without food, people could resort to crime as a result of the hardship.

He disclosed that one thousand bags of rice are to be delivered to the traditional rulers of the selected communities which included Ogidi, four hundred bags, Ogbunike two hundred bags, Nibo one hundred bags, Mgbaukwu one hundred bags, Aguleri one hundred bags and Atani one hundred bags and assured that efforts are being made for more distributions to additional communities in Anambra and Kano states, urging all to stay safe.

Receiving the relief items at his palace, the traditional ruler of Nibo community, Dr Sir Michael Ngene, who appreciated Engineer Nwabueze for his magnanimity, said the gesture will bring succor to indigent and the vulnerable people in the community, adding that his community has complied with measures rolled out by the state government to contain the rampaging virus.

On his part, the Traditional ruler of Ogidi community, lgwe Alex Onyido, who received four hundred bags, expressed gratitude with the Foundation towards ameliorating the sufferings brought by COVID-19.

The Royal father also thanked Governor Willie Obiiano and the COVID-19 committee for their relentless efforts in protecting the citizens and appealed to other well to do individuals and organizations to assist the state government to alleviate the plight of the people.

Reacting to the gesture, the President General, Ogidi Union Nigeria, Mr. Chuka Onubuogu, the Woman Leader, Associate Professor Amaka Okeke and Honourable, Nnanna Nzewi, attributed the charity work to brotherly love and commitment towards the holistic development of the state by the donor and asked other affluent stakeholders to key into such initiative to contain the rising challenges of the pandemic.
