PROMINENT Ijaw leaders have pledged their support for former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar in the presidential primaries. The Southsouth PDP delegates had assured President Goodluck Jonathan on December 30 , last year, of 100 per cent votes from the zone. The Ijaw are mostly in the Southsouth zone and Ondo State. President Jonathan, an Ijaw, hails from Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. Receiveing Atiku yesterday at the home of a former presidential aspirant, Chief Pere Ajuwa, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, hundreds of Ijaw said they do not believe in ethnic politics. Atiku, who arrived Rivers State on Tuesday evening, stayed at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House, Port Harcourt. He met with PDP delegates yesterday at the party’s secretariat on Aba Road. Atiku was also at the secretariat of the Council of Traditional Rulers, headed by King Theophilus Princewill. He condemned Federal Government’s decision in making Abuja the headquarters of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, instead of a town in the Niger Delta region. Addressing delegates at the secretariat, Atiku wondered how President Jonathan expects to win at the primaries with 61 per cent of delegates from the North and 39 per cent from the South. Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who was represented by his deputy, Tele Ikuru, said the state’s delegates would "do the right thing" at the presidential primaries. On Atiku’s entourage were former Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo; Otunba Johnson Oyewole Fasawe; former ministers Chinwe Obaji and Alhaji Abu Fari and Chirs Mamah and some National Assembly members. The Deputy Speaker Tonye Harry; the party’s state Chairman, Chief Godspower Ake; the Southsouth Coordinator of Atiku Campaign Organisation, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire and other eminent personalities were also at the secretariat. i have said it again and again, with the people coming out to contest BUHARI is the one i will vote for , but i never believe i would say this but this is wat options in the nigerian political parties have to offer us.
